PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steve Zoreman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rogan Redban (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Steve Zoreman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rogan Redban!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Hirohito Nitta and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Redban gets the takedown into side control.
Zoreman struggling a bit here.
The referee asks Redban politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Redban prefers to stall for the moment though.

Redban looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Redban wants to stand but Zoreman is controlling his arm.

Redban has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Zoreman with a poor takedown

and Redban counters by clinching up.

Redban jumps guard and drags Zoreman to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Redban looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Zoreman trying to control the position from guard on top but Redban is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Redban seems keen to control Zoreman's posture.
Zoreman looking to sit in guard and control but Redban gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Zoreman looking for a sweep. Not yet Zoreman, not yet.

Zoreman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Redban can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Redban scoring with some ground and pound.
Redban showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Redban working some strikes from top position.

Redban avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Zoreman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Redban doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Redban manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Zoreman is breathing heavily.
Redban trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Zoreman can't keep his opponent in guard - Redban advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Redban wants to stand up but Zoreman is controlling the position.
Redban controlling the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Zoreman is trying to maintain the position but Redban is very close to passing his half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Still in half guard, Redban seems content to control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Zoreman shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Redban defends it nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Redban closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Zoreman did well to prevent Redban getting side control.
Zoreman is trying to control but can't.
Redban is taking a breather. Zoreman says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
It looks like Redban might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Redban wants to stand up but Zoreman is controlling the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Redban content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rogan Redban dominated that round.
That's time! Zoreman's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Zoreman gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Redban to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Well, if Redban is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rogan Redban has got the better of the ground game so far.
Redban wants to stand but Zoreman has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Zoreman is looking to control Redban's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Zoreman avoid being mounted?
Zoreman wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Zoreman is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Redban pulls his head out easily.
Zoreman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Redban is working away from the top position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Redban perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Redban lands with a punch from half guard.
Zoreman is looking for a sweep. Redban is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Redban is taking a breather. Zoreman says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Redban is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Redban with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Redban's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Redban has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Redban moves into the clinch successfully.
A bit of stalling here from Redban.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Redban just misses with a elbow thrown towards Zoreman's brow.
Redban is pressed up against the cage. Zoreman has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Redban down to the mat. Redban avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Redban moves into the clinch.

Redban jumps guard and drags Zoreman to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Redban is pulling down on Zoreman's head to control his posture.

Redban pushes Zoreman off and gets back to his feet.

Redban drives through with a takedown into guard.
Redban slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Redban's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Redban controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Redban wants to stand but Zoreman is controlling his posture from full guard.
Redban stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Zoreman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Redban wanted to stand there but Zoreman had control of the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Rogan Redban showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Redban closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Zoreman wants to control but Redban is keeping busy.
Redban stalling.
Zoreman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Redban is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Redban tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Redban escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Redban stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Redban wants it to stay on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Redban drags the fight down to the ground.
Redban is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Redban managing to control the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Redban can do anything to dispel that myth.
Redban is continuing to stall.
Redban looking to hit a scissor sweep but Zoreman is one step ahead there.

Zoreman trying to control but Redban is working from the bottom.
Redban is pulling down on Zoreman's head to control his posture.

Redban working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Zoreman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Zoreman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Redban lands some strikes from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Steve Zoreman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Zoreman fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

and Redban counters by clinching up.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Zoreman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Redban breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Redban rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Zoreman moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Redban gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Zoreman is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Redban is defending well.

Redban gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Zoreman regains guard.
Steve Zoreman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Redban is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Redban makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Rogan Redban comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Redban has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
