PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chris Cross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guto Silveira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chris Cross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Guto Silveira!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cross takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Silveira misses with a series of wild punches.
Cross shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Silveira but Silveira pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A lazy left from Silveira finds it's target.
Silveira misses with a jab, cross combination.
Cross fails with the takedown
and Cross takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cross ducks under a wild hook from Silveira.
Cross half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Silveira sizes up Cross with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Silveira works Cross's body with a nice hook.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cross tries to clinch but Silveira moves out of range.
Cross gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
letting Silveira counter with a right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Cross. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Silveira fails to land with a series of punches.

Cross darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Cross moves nicely into side control.
Cross controlling from side mount.
Silveira tries to escape but Cross is in control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cross passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Silveira!

Cross working for a submission but Silveira is keeping him at bay.
Poor strikes thrown by Cross there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Silveira wants to try and get back to his feet.
A nice elbow there by Cross.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cross looking to ground and pound but Silveira is blocking nicely.

Cross looking for a guillotine from mount but Silveira is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cross controlling from the full mount.
Cross trying to control but Silveira is having none of it.
You get the feeling that Silveira really doesn't like being in this position too much.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Silveira can do anything to dispel that myth.
Cross with shots to the head and body - Silveira looks very uncomfortable down there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cross tries to control but Silveira wriggling away.

Cross has hold of Silveira's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Silveira manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Cross working for a submission but Silveira is keeping him at bay.
Cross landing punches.
Silveira is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Cross has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cross moves to the back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Cross dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


A punch lands to the side of Silveira 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Silveira throws a right and a left that both miss.
Cross moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Chris Cross seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cross goes for a double leg but Silveira avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Silveira continues to drive forward.

Cross looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Silveira!
Cross working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silveira tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Chris Cross overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Silveira won't enjoy being in this position. Cross looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Silveira is tapping - it's over boys! Cross picks up the submission victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Chris Cross!
Chris Cross really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that MMA nutrition logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
