Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Corwin Anstey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Koji Kanegi!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Dillan Fox and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Anstey closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kanegi's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Anstey slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Anstey will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kanegi is looking for a sweep.
Kanegi is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Anstey perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Kanegi is refusing to be controlled, as Anstey sits in half guard.
It looks like Anstey is going to stand back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kanegi misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Anstey is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Anstey content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Kanegi is pressing down on Anstey's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Anstey tries to free his leg and advance position but Kanegi is retaining full guard.

Our spies down at at Demon's Elite Gym inform us that Kanegi has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Kanegi wants to improve his position but instead Anstey has moved into half guard.
Anstey slows the pace down in half guard.
Kanegi tries to roll over but Anstey keeps him under control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kanegi won't allow Anstey to pass to mount.
Kanegi wants to get back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kanegi takes a swing at Anstey's ribcage but misses.
Kanegi has a takedown stuffed.

Anstey closes the distance and pushes Kanegi back into the cage.

Anstey successfully pulls guard.
Anstey bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kanegi's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Anstey is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kanegi won't allow Anstey to sweep him here.

Kanegi has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Anstey tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Kanegi fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Anstey moves into the clinch successfully.

Anstey has Kanegi pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Anstey pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Kanegi tumbling to the mat - Anstey dives into Kanegi's guard.

Corwin Anstey overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kanegi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kanegi controls Anstey momentarily but Anstey frees himself.

Kanegi is positioning himself well to prevent Anstey advancing to mount.
Kanegi misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Anstey prevents Kanegi from improving his position.
Kanegi won't allow Anstey to pass to mount.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Kanegi flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Kanegi fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Anstey manages to avoid it.
Anstey throws a combination that misses

and Kanegi counters with a takedown into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
An elbow from Kanegi crashes against the mat.
Kanegi creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Anstey sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Anstey is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Kanegi has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Anstey is trying to control Kanegi's posture but Kanegi avoids it.
Anstey is trying to get back to half guard.
Kanegi sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Anstey is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Kanegi works to advance to full mount. Anstey defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Kanegi fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Anstey is rocked!

Oh Anstey is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kanegi softens up his opponent with a couple of shots there and then CRACK! One massive shot lands there and Anstey is out cold! Kanegi jumps to his feet and celebrates on the cage with the fans, who are, quite frankly, going absolutely mental!
