PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Skhu Dan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcelo Strazas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dan comes to the cage accompanied by NEVER SAY NEVER. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Marcelo Strazas was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Skhu Dan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Marcelo Strazas!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, William Gold and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Strazas throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Strazas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Strazas misses with a hook. Dan ducked under it nicely.
Strazas throws a sloppy head kick and Dan moves out of range easily.
Dan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Strazas as he avoids it easily.
Dan moves out of range of the body kick.
Dan seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Strazas swats away the attempt to clinch by Dan.
It seemed like Strazas was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Dan blocks a head kick by Strazas.
Strazas throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Strazas plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Dan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Strazas manages to get himself to full guard.

Strazas is looking to stand up but Dan isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Strazas moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Dan dives in and grabs Strazas's left leg, looking for a takedown. Strazas pushes down on Dan's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Skhu Dan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Dan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Strazas defends well and Dan ends up having to push Strazas into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Strazas does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Dan clinches with his opponent.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Dan breaks the clinch.
Strazas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
As Strazas looks to move away, Dan throws a big counter combo bu Strazas just gets out of the way.
Strazas swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Strazas throws a body kick that misses.
Strazas lands a high kick!
Strazas throws a head kick but Dan moves out of range.
Dan avoids the head kick by Strazas.
It looked like Dan was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Dan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Strazas avoids it really well and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Dan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Strazas as he jumps to the side.

Dan looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Strazas is fending him off so far but Dan persists. Nope, Strazas circles away and we're back to standing.

Dan pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Horrible takedown attempt by Dan or perhaps it was just good defense by Strazas, which made it look bad.

Dan is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Strazas lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Dan has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Dan and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Strazas is looking to chop away at Dan's legs.

Dan fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Strazas tries to bum rush Dan with a series of wild strikes but Dan uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Strazas jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Strazas throws a big shot that misses.
Strazas misses with a two punch combination.
Dan darts in looking for a takedown but Strazas gets double underhooks and turns Dan into the cage.
Dan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Strazas swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Dan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Strazas defends well and Dan ends up having to push Strazas into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Strazas has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Dan looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

A little jabbing left from Strazas on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Strazas leaves Dan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Dan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Strazas tries to avoid it but Dan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Strazas to the ground. Strazas escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Strazas! But no joy.
Strazas throws a leg kick which misses Dan's front leg but catches the back leg as Dan tries to avoid it.
Strazas stuffs the takedown attempt from Dan. Dan gets slowly back to his feet.
Strazas has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Dan wants to clinch up but Strazas keeps it at a distance.
The fighters circling - Strazas throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Marcelo Strazas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Strazas is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Dan clinches up against the cage.
Dan is trying to drag Strazas to the mat but Strazas just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Dan decides to pull guard.
Strazas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Strazas wants to pass the guard but Dan is keeping the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Dan takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Dan shoots in looking for a takedown but Strazas manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Dan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Marcelo Strazas comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Strazas winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
