PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hideo Sato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Dauden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sato comes to the ring accompanied by Kodo Drums. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hideo Sato!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryan Dauden!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dauden lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Dauden.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Dauden.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sato is trying to get back to half guard.
Sato sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Sato tries to get to full guard but Dauden has control of the leg.
Dauden tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Sato.
Sato might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Sato is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sato flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Sato is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Dauden pulls his head out easily.
Dauden tries to stand and escape but Sato is controlling the position.

Dauden prevents Sato from improving his position.
Dauden is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dauden has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Sato is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Sato manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Dauden on his heels. He'll look to pass Dauden's guard now, I'm sure.

Dauden is trying to control the position but Sato postures up.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Sato is looking to stand up but Dauden won't let him.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Sato is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Sato prevents Dauden from improving his position.
Sato is trying to control the action in half guard but Dauden is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Dauden tries to get to full guard but Sato has control of the leg.
Dauden is refusing to be controlled, as Sato sits in half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Dauden pushes Sato off looking to stand but Sato dives back in and keeps control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sato avoids the head kick by Dauden.
A combination from Dauden does no damage.
Dauden throws a right hand that Sato ducks under and follows up with a left that Sato also avoids with ease.
A head kick misses from Dauden.
Dauden tests Sato's chin there with a solid looking shot.

and Sato counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dauden won't be happy with that.
Dauden is not content to let Sato control the position.

Dauden takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Sato tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Sato is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dauden knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
You can see the frustration on Dauden's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hideo Sato will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

Sato has a takedown stuffed.
Dauden swinging wildly here.
No joy there for Dauden, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dauden throws a series of punches but Sato avoids them all with ease.
Dauden stalks Sato and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Sato's face. Sato staggers backwards, shaken.
Dauden will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Ryan Dauden seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dauden throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Sato tries to keep at a distance but Dauden has taken the fight into the clinch.
Sato lands a nice uppercut.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Sato tries to pull guard but Dauden won't allow it.

Sato swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Sato is trying to pull guard but Dauden has him pressed against the ropes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hideo Sato. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dauden manages to break the clinch.
Dauden tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sato swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Dauden leaves Sato with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Dauden shoots in but no luck this time.
Sato wants to clinch.
Sato changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dauden tries to avoid it but Sato manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dauden to the ground. Dauden escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Dauden keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Dauden unleashes a big counter combination but Sato bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Dauden tries to bum rush Sato with a series of wild strikes but Sato uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Dauden has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Dauden throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Dauden sizes up Sato with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Dauden jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Sato drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dauden is looking for a sweep.
Dauden is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Sato trying to control the action but Dauden is working from the bottom.
We've been hearing that Sato has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Sato goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Dauden has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Sato but great work by Dauden.

Dauden wants to stand but Sato is controlling his arm.
Sato tries to improve position but can't.
Dauden wants to stand but Sato has his arm trapped.

Dauden has control of an arm but Sato manages to advance to Dauden's back!
Will Sato go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Hideo Sato overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sato is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Dauden is defending well though. Sato let's go of the attempt for now.

Ryan Dauden showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Dauden throws a series of punches but Sato moves out of range.
Sato half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Dauden throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Dauden swinging wildly here.

Sato shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dauden as he jumps to the side.

Dauden throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sato was covering up waiting for the punch and Dauden finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Sato is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Sato throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Dauden escapes and throws Sato's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Sato can't do much from the bottom here.
Sato tries to bench press Dauden off him but Dauden keeps the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Sato tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Dauden easily slips into full mount!
Dauden wants to stand but Sato is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Sato is in all sorts of trouble here.

Sato wants to control but Dauden is having none of it.
Sato is wriggling around trying to escape.
Sato bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Ryan Dauden comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dauden has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
