PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Scott Sharp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jared Fisherman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Scott Sharp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jared Fisherman!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Leandro Rodrigues and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sharp tries to keep at a distance but Fisherman has taken the fight into the clinch.
Sharp avoiding damage as Fisherman throws knees to the body.

Fisherman jumps guard and drags Sharp to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Fisherman is trying to keep Sharp in close.
Sharp landing with the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sharp accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Fisherman utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fisherman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Fisherman wants to get back to his feet but Sharp is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Fisherman pulls Sharp in to control the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Sharp content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Fisherman trying to control the position.
Sharp with a flurry of punches that miss.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Fisherman darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Fisherman perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
It looks like Fisherman might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Sharp tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Sharp wants to get back to full guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Sharp is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Fisherman jumps into side control!
A lull in the action here.
Fisherman working away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sharp is looking to regain half guard here but Fisherman keeps moving and retains side control.
Sharp prevents Fisherman from improving position.
Sharp manages to get back to half guard.
Sharp is looking to control Fisherman's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sharp avoid being mounted?

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Fisherman misses with a few strikes there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sharp shoots in for a takedown but Fisherman shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Fisherman is looking to land body kicks.

Fisherman pushes Sharp up against the cage in a clinch.
A left hand lands to the body for Fisherman.

Fisherman is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Sharp can't fight it off and eventually Fisherman manages to take the fight to the floor. Sharp looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Fisherman is stalling in the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Sharp has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fisherman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jared Fisherman dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Fisherman misses with a shot to the body
and Sharp counters with a straight right hand.
Sharp fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Sharp is trying hard to land a takedown here. Fisherman sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Fisherman changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sharp looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Sharp misses with an elbow from the bottom.

Fisherman tries to stand but Sharp is controlling his head.
Jared Fisherman has got the better of the ground game so far.

Fisherman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sharp keeps working.
Sharp trying to remain calm as Fisherman controls from the top position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Fisherman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fisherman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
You can see the frustration on Sharp's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sharp slips a jab and a cross from Fisherman.
Fisherman tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Fisherman has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Fisherman shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Sharp is trying to maintain the position but Fisherman is very close to passing his half guard.
Fisherman is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Sharp is looking to get back to is feet but Fisherman passes into side control.
Fisherman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sharp keeps working.
Sharp is trying to get back to half guard.
Fisherman cracks Sharp with a big right hand but Sharp just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Sharp is trying to buck Fisherman off.
Sharp is looking to reverse the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Fisherman in side control, just content to control the action for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Fisherman shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sharp is trying to defend but Fisherman finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Sharp wants to improve his position but Fisherman is controlling well.

Jared Fisherman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Fisherman feints and as Sharp raises his hands in defense, Fisherman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Fisherman is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fisherman avoids the attempt from Sharp to control.
Fisherman takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Fisherman's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Sharp tries to control Fisherman's body but Fisherman pushes him off. Sharp squirms to his side and now Fisherman has his back!

Fisherman is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Sharp knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Sharp for a finish.
Fisherman keeps control of the position easily here as Sharp tries to buck him off.
I really don't envy Sharp right now.

Sharp just trying to survive but Fisherman is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Fisherman biding his time, looking for the opening.
Fisherman is working the ground and pound. Can Sharp escape?

Fisherman is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Sharp has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Fisherman looking for the choke but no joy.
Scott Sharp has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jared Fisherman is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Fisherman has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
