The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Voli fails in his attempt to clinch.
Voli defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Garrett.

Voli breaks from the clinch.

Voli closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Garrett's guard.

Voli drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Garrett dives on top into guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Garrett tries to close the distance and clinch but Voli swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Voli shoots in and gets a takedown into Garrett's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Garrett throws his legs up looking for a submission but Voli uses it to pass to side control.

Voli decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Voli throws a head kick but Garrett moves out of range.
Voli tries to close the distance and clinch up but Garrett swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Voli misses with a head kick.
Garrett fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Voli now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Voli throws a nice head kick!

Voli closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Garrett did well to prevent Voli getting side control.
Garrett is breathing heavily.
Well, if Voli is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Voli thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Voli wants to stand up but Garrett has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Voli decides to stand and escape the position.
Garrett is looking to clinch but Voli is avoiding it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Garrett closes the distance and clinches.
Voli lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Garrett has had enough of the clinch but Voli keeps him there for the moment.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Garrett misses with a takedown attempt - Voli sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Voli has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Voli throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Voli is trying to control the position but Garrett postures up.

Voli is looking for a triangle but Garrett pushes his legs off easily.
Garrett won't allow Voli to sweep him here.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Voli tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Garrett is able to avoid easily.
Garrett throws a right and a left that Voli avoids nicely.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Garrett doesn't succeed with the takedown

Voli is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Garrett tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Voli is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Jakub Voli showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
