PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ruben Carney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Konnor Tyson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Konnor Tyson!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Carney darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carney is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Tyson sees it coming and defends easily.
Tyson wants to control but Carney is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Tyson has his hands clasped together around Carney's back. He's all about the action.
Carney throwing shots but Tyson is blocking nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carney is keen to just control but Tyson is a slippery customer.

Carney decides to stand up.

Tyson takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

Carney drives through with a takedown into guard.
Tyson controlling the position.

Carney postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carney stands up and waves to Tyson to follow him.

Carney throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Tyson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Carney is in Tyson's guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Carney misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Carney is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Tyson's half guard.

Carney stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tyson drops his hands momentarily and Carney takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Carney throws a jab when Tyson was well out of range.
Tyson is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Carney not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Carney throws an elbow that misses. Tyson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Carney's guard. Nice move by Tyson!

Carney throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Carney is trying to keep Tyson in close.
Tyson wants to control from the top but Carney keeps moving.
Ruben Carney overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Carney is adopting a defensive guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Carney.
Tyson is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Tyson is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
Tyson is trying to control Carney's posture but Carney avoids it.

Carney decides to stand up, so the ref orders Tyson to his feet.
Carney connects with a single shot there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Tyson with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Carney to score with a decent uppercut.

Tyson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Carney to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Ruben Carney dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Carney closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Carney throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Tyson on the side of the head.

Carney closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Carney tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Carney has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Carney decides to stand up, so the ref orders Tyson to his feet.

Carney throws a head kick that misses.
Carney throws a hook to the side of Tyson's head but Tyson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Tyson gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Carney regains guard.
Carney is trying to keep Tyson in close.

Carney is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Tyson is aware though and is defending well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Carney keeping moving, preventing Tyson from controlling successfully.
Tyson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Tyson pushes down on Carney's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Konnor Tyson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Tyson is looking to take a break and control but Carney is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Carney tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ruben Carney is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Carney has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
