PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Robin Renier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derek King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Derek King is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Robin Renier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Derek King!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Nard Betker and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Renier rushes King and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
King looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Renier gets underhooks to prevent King's takedown attempt.

Renier breaks the clinch.
Renier throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by King.
King looks for the body kick but Renier saw that one coming.
Renier throws a combination. King tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Renier connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Renier fails to land the takedown.
Renier tries to score a power double leg takedown but King sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Renier somewhat.
King pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Renier closes the distance and pushes King back into the cage.

Renier is trying to trip King. He has hold of a leg but King is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Renier persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Renier throws a big right hand that misses.
Renier controls from within his opponent's guard.

King is looking to stand up but Renier isn't so interested in that idea.
Renier slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Renier stands up from King's guard - Renier perhaps looking for a knockout.

Renier is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in King's half guard.

Renier is looking to advance position but King won't allow it.

Renier decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

King tries to sprawl but Renier drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Renier's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

King is defending against the submission attempts here by Renier.
Renier wants to pass the guard but King is defending well.
Renier will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Renier is looking for a kimura but King is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Renier to get the leverage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Renier lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
King is trying to maintain the position but Renier is very close to passing his half guard.

Renier stands up out of the half guard.
Derek King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Renier drives through and clinches with King against the cage.

Renier breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Renier tries to close the distance and clinch but King swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Renier shoots for a double leg takedown but King sprawls well. He's pushed Renier's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robin Renier. That's going to take a lot out of him.

King is looking to land body kicks.
Renier moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Renier changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. King tries to avoid it but Renier manages to keep hold of a leg and drag King to the ground. King escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Renier shoots in but no luck this time.
King pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
King misses with an attempted mid kick.

Renier changes levels and goes for a takedown here. King fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Renier throws a head kick but King moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

King gets caught flat footed, as Renier shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Robin Renier overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Renier has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Renier is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. King can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

King tries to lock up and control but Renier gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Renier has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Renier seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down King for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

King has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Renier can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Renier dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on King. That did some damage!
King keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Renier has a takedown stuffed.
Derek King is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
King throws the kick towards the body but Renier avoids it.
King stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Renier.

Renier rushes King and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
King is trying to pull guard but Renier has him pressed against the cage.
King drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Renier gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Robin Renier.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Renier, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
