Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Santiago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Predator Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Santiago comes to the cage accompanied by The Rza - Samurai Showdown. Burns has chosen How I Could Just Kill A Man - Cypress Hill as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Predator Burns enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Santiago!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Predator Burns!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice leg kick lands there from Santiago.
Santiago scores with a leg kick.
Santiago looks to land a right hand but Burns moved out of range.
Burns uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Santiago.

Burns gets the takedown into side control.
Santiago is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Burns tries to advance to mount but Santiago denies him.

Burns is looking for the choke from the back position but Santiago is controlling his hands well.

Santiago tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Burns lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Santiago is squirming around, avoiding Burns's attempts to control the action.

Burns postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Santiago looks a forlorn figure.
Burns can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Santiago is looking to escape.

Burns lands a big shot there that rocks Santiago but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Burns uses his free foot to push down on Santiago's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Santiago.

Burns postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Santiago looks a forlorn figure.

Predator Burns dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Santiago tries to land a leg kick but Burns saw it coming and moves away.
Santiago looks to land a left hand but Burns moved out of range nicely.
Burns tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
A big right from Burns misses.
A bone on bone clash there as Burns blocks the leg kick.

Burns has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Santiago fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Santiago throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Burns has a takedown stuffed.

The fight stays on the outside here - Burns looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Burns counters with a nice double leg into side control. Santiago won't be happy with that.

Burns has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Burns wants to take a breather but Santiago manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Burns.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Burns thows a huge punch but Santiago dodges it nicely.
Santiago won't allow Burns to pass to mount.
Santiago is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Burns is looking to pass Santiago's guard but actually Santiago recovers to full guard.
Santiago throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Santiago avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Santiago controls Burns momentarily but Burns frees himself.
Santiago wants to sweep but no luck.

Burns pushes down on Santiago's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Predator Burns has got the better of the ground game so far.
Burns working the head and body with strikes.
Burns passes to side control.
Santiago manages to work his way to half guard, despite Burns's best efforts.
Santiago is not content to let Burns control the position.
Burns looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Santiago with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Santiago tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Burns throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Burns is looking to advance position but Santiago won't allow it.
Santiago is trying to get back to full guard.

Santiago regains full guard. Nicely done.
Santiago is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Santiago is trying to control. Burns wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Burns is staying active underneath Santiago, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Predator Burns showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Santiago's corner calls for a 1-2. Santiago obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Burns moves out of range as Santiago throws a body kick.
Santiago swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Burns throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jose Santiago seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Burns closes the distance and pushes Santiago back into the cage.

Burns has hold of one of Santiago's legs. Santiago is fighting the takedown attempt but Burns gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Santiago seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Predator Burns comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
