PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Nogueira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rashed Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mauricio Nogueira!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rashed Evans!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Nogueira looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Nogueira slips a jab and a cross from Evans.
Evans throws a right and a left that both miss.

Evans moves into the clinch successfully.
Evans tries to score a body lock takedown but Nogueira shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Nogueira gets underhooks to prevent Evans's takedown attempt.
Nogueira is pushing Evans up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Evans breaks the clinch.
Evans avoids a punch combination nicely.
Nogueira swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Evans counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Nogueira has had enough of the clinch but Evans keeps him there for the moment.
Evans changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Nogueira fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Mauricio Nogueira has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rashed Evans.
Nogueira tries to clinch

and Evans counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Nogueira wriggles free and stands up.

Evans closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Evans manages to break the clinch.
Evans doesn't manage to clinch there - Nogueira circles away.
Nogueira takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Evans feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Evans in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Nogueira has a closed guard, preventing Evans from standing up.
Evans looks gassed!
Nogueira trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Nogueira working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Evans doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Nogueira is tightening it up a little... Evans has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Evans reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Evans taps out! nice BJJ there by Nogueira!
