PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mikey Havoc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hideya Kaayi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Havoc comes to the cage accompanied by Ready Steady Go. Hideya Kaayi told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mikey Havoc!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hideya Kaayi!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Havoc rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kaayi moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Kaayi uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

It looks like Mikey Havoc has been cut.
Havoc lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Kaayi lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Havoc has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Havoc tries to move into range but Kaayi moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Kaayi misses with a body shot.
Havoc throws a hook to the side of Kaayi's head but Kaayi sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Kaayi comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Kaayi throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Havoc stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Kaayi, as that shot connected.

Kaayi throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Havoc tumbling to the canvas!

Mikey Havoc's cut is getting worse.
Kaayi told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Havoc keeping moving, preventing Kaayi from controlling successfully.
Kaayi controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Havoc is looking to stand up but Kaayi isn't so interested in that idea.

Kaayi controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Kaayi wants to pass the guard but Havoc is keeping the position.
Kaayi advances to half guard.
Havoc is trying to stand.
Kaayi passes to side control.
Kaayi trying to control the action but Havoc is working from the bottom.
Kaayi throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Havoc works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Havoc wants to get back to his feet.

Havoc pushes Kaayi off looking to stand but Kaayi dives back in and keeps control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Kaayi wants to clinch up but Havoc keeps it at a distance.

Kaayi dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Kaayi looks for the body kick but Havoc saw that one coming.
Kaayi tries to clinch up but Havoc circles away and keeps his distance.
Kaayi bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Havoc's head backwards.

Mikey Havoc's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Kaayi connects with a jab.
Kaayi with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Havoc to score with a decent uppercut.
Havoc displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kaayi throws out the jab.
Kaayi stuns Havoc with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Kaayi is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Havoc had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Havoc avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Hideya Kaayi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kaayi wants to clinch up but Havoc keeps it at a distance.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
No joy there for Kaayi, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Hideya Kaayi really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Kore Fight Nutrition [TG] logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
