PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robt Pena (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Pennis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Robt Pena!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jimmy Pennis!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pena throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Pena manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Pennis on his heels. He'll look to pass Pennis's guard now, I'm sure.
Pennis throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Pena wants to stand but Pennis is controlling his posture from full guard.
Pena wants to stand and escape but instead Pennis has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Pennis controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pena is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pennis pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pena is keeping the position for now.
Pennis is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Pennis is pushing down on Pena's leg trying to pass to half guard. Pena is fighting to maintain full guard but Pennis has managed to sneak the leg through.
Pena trying to hold on to Pennis's head to control him but Pennis postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pennis seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Pennis thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pena's head.
Pennis winds up and cracks Pena with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Pennis content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Pennis tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Pena.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pennis doesn't manage to clinch there - Pena circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pennis misses with a low kick as Pena jumps back.

Pennis scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Pena can't do much from the bottom here.
Pennis controls the position.
Pennis tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Pennis is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Pena knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pennis trying to control the position but Pena is working away.
The ground and pound from Pennis seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pennis controlling the position from side mount.
Pennis scores with punches from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Pennis dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Pennis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Pena to the mat! Pena manages to get full guard.
Pennis tries to stand but Pena is controlling from the bottom.
Pena is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pennis pushes down on Pena's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Pennis passes to full mount!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pennis can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pena is looking to escape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pennis throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Pena blocking the ground and pound.
Pennis controlling his opponent.
Pennis with shots to the head and body - Pena looks very uncomfortable down there.


It looks like Robt Pena has been cut.
Pennis lands a big elbow - Pena is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Pena is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Jimmy Pennis!
