Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Willis Melton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jake Shaffer!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shaffer scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Shaffer drives through with a takedown into Melton's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.


Melton is rocked!
Melton manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shaffer manages to get himself to full guard.

Shaffer throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Melton stops Shaffer from standing up.
Melton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Melton drops back looking for a leg! Shaffer is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Shaffer manages to kick Melton off! Melton jumps back into Shaffer's guard.
Melton stops Shaffer from standing up.

Melton gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Shaffer shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Shaffer tries to stand but can't do so whilst Melton controls his leg.
Melton regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Shaffer.
Shaffer prevents Melton from getting back to his feet.
Melton lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Melton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Melton won't allow Shaffer to get back to his feet.
Shaffer wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Melton wants to control from the top but Shaffer keeps moving.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shaffer can do anything to dispel that myth.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Shaffer will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Melton stands up and waves to Shaffer to follow him.
Shaffer throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Melton is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Melton gets tackled into the cage by Shaffer. Shaffer maintains the clinch.
Shaffer is trying to break the clinch but Melton is controlling him.
Shaffer lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Shaffer lands a takedown into guard.

Melton is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Shaffer throwing strikes but missing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shaffer wants to stand and escape but instead Melton has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Melton slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Shaffer.
Melton blocks the strikes from Shaffer.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Shaffer is trying to stand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Melton escapes and gets back to his feet.
Melton wants to clinch.
Despite the aggression on Shaffer's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Melton on the wrong end of a nice hook.


It looks like Willis Melton has been cut.
Shaffer stuffs the takedown attempt from Melton. Melton gets slowly back to his feet.
Melton throws a combination that misses
and Shaffer counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Shaffer ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Melton is breathing heavily.
Melton gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Shaffer gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jake Shaffer!
After the fight, Jake Shaffer was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
