Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ethan Day!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Day feints and as Finch raises his hands in defense, Day changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Finch looking to control.
Finch tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Finch is working hard here to advance position.

Day decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Day shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Finch is trying to defend but Day finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Day looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Day trying to control from half guard but Finch is working away.
Finch is trying to maintain the position but Day is very close to passing his half guard.

Finch is not content to let Day control the position.
Day is thwarting Finch's attempts to control the position.
Day thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Finch tries to kick Day off but Day keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Day gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Day lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Day tries to pass the half guard into mount. Finch knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Finch is trying to stand up here but Day is controlling him well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Day content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Let's hope that Day has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Finch gets full guard.
Finch wants to sweep but no luck.
Day works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Finch is trying to stand up here but Day is controlling him well.
Day prevents Finch from improving his position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Day decides to stand up.
Day lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Owen Finch has been cut.
Finch misses with a takedown attempt - Day sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Finch tries to keep at a distance but Day has taken the fight into the clinch.
Finch tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Day gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Day slows the pace down in half guard.

Finch tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Day has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Finch is breathing heavily.

Day is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Finch is surviving well by controlling Day's body position as best he can.
Day trying to control but Finch is having none of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Day wants to finish this one by submission but Finch is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Day.

Day shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Day pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Finch is keeping the position for now.

Finch has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Day has passed into side control.
Day tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Day is looking to take a break and control but Finch is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Finch bucks up and tries to throw Day off but instead Day has got his back!

Day trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Finch tries to break free.
Day trying to control.
Day might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Finch haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Day has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Day tightening his grip on Finch, looking for the choke.
Day missing with strikes.

Day working for the choke.
Finch is really stuck here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
I would not like to be Finch right now.

Day trying to control momentarily.
Day biding his time, looking for the opening.
Finch looking very determined here, making life difficult for Day.
Finch turns into Day and is now in his guard.
Day is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Day looking for subs off his back but Finch has passed one foot through into half guard.

Finch missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Day is trying to control but can't.
Finch tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Finch wants to control but Day is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ethan Day showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Finch with a lazy takedown attempt

and Day counters by moving into the clinch.

Finch has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Day uses from the top position.
Day trying to control but Finch is working from the bottom.
Finch will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Day. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Day is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Finch shoots in and drives through. Day sprawls well.
Day tries to counter by closing the distance.
Finch falls off balance throwing a combination

and Day counters by clinching up.
Finch misses with a body punch.

Day breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Day drives through with a takedown into Finch's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Finch is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Day is controlling him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Finch is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Finch keeping moving, preventing Day from controlling successfully.
Day prevents Finch from getting back to his feet.
Finch wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Day is now in half guard.

Day wants to work for an arm triangle but Finch is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Day content to control rather than advance.
Day works his foot free and advances to mount.

Finch is trying to reverse the position but instead Day has taken his back - oops!
Finch is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

Day is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Finch rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Day wants to lay and pray for a moment but Finch keeps working.

Finch tries to get to full guard but Day has control of the leg.
Day trying to control the action but Finch is working from the bottom.
Owen Finch has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ethan Day is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Day thows a huge punch but Finch dodges it nicely.

Well Day has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
