PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Froste Manro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Philly Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Froste Manro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Philly Brown!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown closes the distance and clinches up with Manro, looking for a takedown. Brown pushes Manro against the cage but Manro circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Manro misses with a takedown attempt

and Brown holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Manro has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Brown avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Brown can't get the takedown.
Manro tries to pull guard but Brown forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Froste Manro. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Brown manages to pull guard.
Brown wants to sweep here but Manro controlling him for the moment.
Brown is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Manro is looking to stand up but Brown won't let him.

Manro trying to control the position from guard on top but Brown is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Brown is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Brown keeping moving, preventing Manro from controlling successfully.
Brown is adopting a defensive guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Manro has Brown up against the cage in a clinch.
Brown is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Manro ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Manro no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Brown passes Manro's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Manro could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Manro moves into full guard.
Brown wants to control from the top but Manro keeps moving.
Manro wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Brown is now in half guard.
Manro might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Brown is trying to control the action in half guard but Manro is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Manro pushes Brown off looking to stand but Brown dives back in and keeps control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brown works his way into side control.
Brown controls the position.
Let's hope that Brown has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The ground and pound from Brown seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Brown wants to control but Manro is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Brown is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Manro knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brown on the ground.

Brown creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Manro sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Manro displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Brown.
Brown tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Manro manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Manro changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Brown leaves Manro with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Philly Brown dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Manro shoots in for a takedown but Brown shows good takedown defense.
Brown shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Manro but Manro pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Brown shoots in and drives through. Manro sprawls well.
Manro tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Brown swivels and escapes.
Brown shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Manro pinned against the cage. Manro gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Froste Manro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Philly Brown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Manro fails to land the takedown.
Manro fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Froste Manro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Manro tries to close the distance and clinch up but Brown swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Manro has managed to clinch.
Brown is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Manro pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Manro pulls guard.
Brown wants to control from the top but Manro keeps moving.
Brown sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Manro's guard.
Still in half guard, Brown seems content to control.
Brown wants to free his trapped foot but Manro is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Brown is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Brown seems to be looking for submissions.
Manro is looking to get back to full guard here but Brown has managed to pass to side control instead.
Brown trying to control the action but Manro is working from the bottom.
Brown wants to take a breather but Manro manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Brown.
Brown stands and throws Manro's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brown controlling the position from side mount.
Manro takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Manro is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Brown is controlling him well.
Brown has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Brown looks up at the clock and then as Manro takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Brown smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
You can see the frustration on Manro's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Brown tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Manro pushes Brown away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Brown gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Brown thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Philly Brown showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Manro swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Brown appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Manro tries a head kick but it misses.
Manro fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Brown avoids it really well and circles away.
Brown tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Manro takes the fight into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brown tries to pull guard but Manro won't allow it.

Brown is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Brown jumps guard but Manro stands there with Brown around his waist. Brown gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Froste Manro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Philly Brown.

Manro breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A nice inside leg kick there by Manro. That's going to slow Brown down.
Brown misses with a double jab.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Brown is defended easily by Manro.

Manro throws a head kick that misses.
Manro shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Brown defends it nicely.

Brown scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Brown is looking to stand up but Manro won't let him.

Brown wants to control from the top but Manro keeps moving.

Brown lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Brown wants to pass the guard but Manro is keeping the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Manro wants to clinch.
Manro wants to clinch but Brown slips to the side

and Brown counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Brown pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Manro is keeping the position for now.
Philly Brown is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Brown looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

And that's the end of the fight!
Philly Brown comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Brown winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
