The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Payne has Calaway up against the cage in a clinch.
Calaway wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Payne has him pressed against the cage.

Payne gets through Calaway's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Payne changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Calaway fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Payne closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Calaway is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Payne using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Calaway has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

As Payne backs off Calaway throws a huge counter combo but Payne manages to avoid it all.

Calaway dodges an elbow strike from Payne.
With the fighters up against the cage, Calaway throws an elbow but misses.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Payne.

Payne pulls guard successfully.
Calaway stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Payne swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Payne is pulling down on Calaway's head. It's preventing any offense from Calaway, at least for the moment.

Calaway stops Payne from standing up.
Payne keeping moving, preventing Calaway from controlling successfully.
Payne wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Calaway prevents Payne from getting back to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Payne creates some distance for himself and unleashes a massive uppercut that sends Calaway's eyes rolling into the back of his head! Calaway drops to his knees and Payne pours it on with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!
