Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Stumpy Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Kopp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stumpy Johnson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dave Kopp!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Anthony Taglia and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kopp goes for a double leg but Johnson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Johnson continues to drive forward.
Kopp leaves Johnson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kopp shoots in for a double leg but Johnson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Johnson seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Kopp shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Johnson but Johnson pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Stumpy Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Kopp.

Kopp shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kopp was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Johnson is looking for a sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kopp working over Johnson with some ground and pound. Johnson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Kopp throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Kopp is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Johnson reverses the position - he's now on top in Kopp's guard.
Johnson throws a strike but Kopp rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Johnson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kopp can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Johnson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kopp gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Johnson has momentary wrist control but Kopp slips an elbow through the middle.
Kopp working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Johnson's head.

My spies in TooKewl for Regular Gyms inform me that Kopp has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Johnson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kopp doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kopp manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Johnson seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Kopp escapes and throws Johnson's legs to the side, diving into side control!
You can see the frustration on Johnson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Johnson takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Check out the look on Kopp's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Johnson takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kopp has a takedown stuffed.

Kopp decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kopp connects with a nice short shot to Johnson's temple.
Kopp looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Kopp misses with a head shot. Johnson uses the momentum to regain guard.
Kopp is pushing down on Johnson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Johnson is fighting to maintain full guard but Kopp has managed to sneak the leg through.
Dave Kopp has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Kopp. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Kopp is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Kopp lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Oh Johnson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kopp lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Johnson! More strikes land and this one is all over! Kopp jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dave Kopp!

Dave Kopp seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
