PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Billy Tinkl (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ska Asap (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Billy Tinkl!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, Ska Asap!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Russell Pearce and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Asap changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tinkl tries to avoid it but Asap manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tinkl to the ground. Tinkl escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Asap shoots in and gets a takedown into Tinkl's guard.
Tinkl pulls Asap in close to his closed guard and prevents Asap from doing any damage or advancing position.
Asap wants to pass the guard but Tinkl is keeping the position.
Tinkl wants to stand up but Asap is controlling him.

Tinkl working for submissions but it's allowed Asap to get to half guard.
Tinkl's coaches at World Combat Gym - NY have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Asap tries to pass the half guard into mount. Tinkl knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Tinkl is defending against the submission attempts here by Asap.
Asap stops Tinkl from getting back to his feet.
Tinkl wants to improve his position but Asap is controlling well.
Tinkl is not content to let Asap control the position.
Asap passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Tinkl!
Tinkl wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Asap.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tinkl tries to reverse the position but Asap maintains control.
Tinkl manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Tinkl slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Tinkl lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Tinkl drops back, looking for a kneebar! Asap looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Asap looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Asap!


Asap tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tinkl tries to bench press Asap off him but Asap keeps the position.
My spies in World Combat Gym - NY inform me that Asap has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Asap is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Tinkl is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The ground and pound from Asap seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Asap wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Tinkl, who protects the arm well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Asap tries to score with some ground and pound. Tinkl controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
You can see the frustration on Tinkl's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Asap tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Asap has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Asap wants to control but Tinkl is keeping him busy.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tinkl is pushing Asap's head away, looking to escape. Asap manages to hold on to the position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ska Asap dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Asap fails to land the takedown.

Tinkl bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Asap is trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tinkl tries for a kimura but Asap is defending well.
Tinkl trying to control the position but Asap is working away.

Tinkl is staying tight to Asap's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Sloppy strikes there by Tinkl.
Tinkl working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Tinkl tries to move to mount but Asap blocks the move with his legs.

Tinkl looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Asap is not content to let Tinkl control the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Asap is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Tinkl off and has taken his back!

Asap looking to finish the fight with a rear naked choke. Tinkl is controlling Asap 's left arm and he spins nicely into guard.
Tinkl looking to sit in guard and control but Asap gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Asap postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Tinkl looking for a guillotine here but Asap defends easily.
Asap won't allow Tinkl to sweep him here.
Tinkl is trying to keep Asap in close.
Asap pushes down on Tinkl's leg and manages to get into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Asap not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Asap has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Tinkl defend it? Asap steps over the head and cranks it - Tinkl is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Asap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ska Asap!
Ska Asap is the new middleweight champion!
