Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Colonel Angus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Itula Maafala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Itula Maafala has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Colonel Angus's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Colonel Angus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Itula Maafala!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Chris Saunders and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maafala throws a big shot that misses.
Angus jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Maafala throws a shot to the body.
Angus swats away the attempt to clinch by Maafala.

Angus fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Maafala to the ground. Angus is now in Maafala's guard.
Angus trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Maafala manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Maafala working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Maafala postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Angus bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Maafala's guard.

Angus controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Angus won't allow Maafala to sweep him here.
Maafala really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Angus. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Angus is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Maafala can do anything to dispel that myth.
Angus slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Angus drops back looking for a leg! Maafala is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Maafala manages to kick Angus off! Angus jumps back into Maafala's guard.
Maafala manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Angus manages to get himself to full guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Maafala throws an elbow that misses. Angus uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Maafala's guard. Nice move by Angus!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Angus thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Maafala moves into the clinch successfully.
Maafala misses with a punch to the body.
Maafala misses with a short punch on the inside.
Maafala stalls.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Colonel Angus will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Maafala closes the distance and clinches.
Maafala lands a knee to the head.
Maafala wants to stall.
Maafala misses with a knee strike.
Maafala blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Maafala works on Angus's body with a couple of short punches.
Maafala lands a shot to the body.
Maafala misses with a knee to the head.
Maafala misses with a knee to the head.
Maafala has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Angus is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Maafala to keep the fight standing.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Angus has Maafala pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Maafala manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Maafala escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Maafala lands with a short shot to the head.

Maafala pushes Angus back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Maafala's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Maafala throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Maafala tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Itula Maafala is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Maafala throws a jab but it's blocked by Angus.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Angus keeps the fight on the outside.
Angus shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Maafala sprawls well. Maafala wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Angus gets slowly back to his feet.
It seemed like Maafala was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Colonel Angus. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Angus wants to take the fight to the mat but Maafala manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Angus takes a knee right on the jaw!


Angus is rocked!
Maafala working the clinch nicely. Angus is working for position but Maafala cracks him with a big knee to the head! Angus crumples up against the cage and Maafala lands two more shots before the ref can save Angus! This one is all over!
