PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Granville Lindsey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wan Aleelel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wan Aleelel will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Granville Lindsey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Wan Aleelel!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Ben Zyskovitsi and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lindsey drives through with a takedown into Aleelel's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Lindsey stands up and waves to Aleelel to follow him.
Horrible takedown attempt by Aleelel or perhaps it was just good defense by Lindsey, which made it look bad.
Lindsey seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Lindsey has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Aleelel is trying to keep an underhook but Lindsey manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Lindsey seems content to control.

Lindsey will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lindsey seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Aleelel for as long as he can get away with.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Aleelel wants to counter with a clinch but Lindsey pushes him away.

Lindsey shoots in looking for a takedown but Aleelel manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lindsey's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Lindsey bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Lindsey is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Aleelel has escaped the position, nice work there.

Lindsey has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Aleelel is not content to let Lindsey control the position.

Lindsey is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Aleelel knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Lindsey shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Aleelel manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Lindsey is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Aleelel can do to turn this around?
Lindsey seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Lindsey stands and steps away. Aleelel gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Aleelel throws a series of punches but Lindsey avoids them all with ease.

Aleelel rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lindsey moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Lindsey slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Aleelel preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aleelel can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Lindsey controls the pace.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lindsey continues to stall.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Granville Lindsey will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Aleelel is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Lindsey fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Lindsey has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Aleelel uses from the top position.

Aleelel drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Lindsey dives on top into guard.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Lindsey.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Lindsey is trying hard to land a takedown here. Aleelel sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Aleelel lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Lindsey circles away quickly and effectively.
Lindsey tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Aleelel now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

Lindsey closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lindsey lands in his opponent's guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Granville Lindsey.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lindsey, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
