PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kelly Heath (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Bolick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kelly Heath!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roy Bolick!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Russell Pearce and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bolick tries to work over Heath's front leg with a kick but Heath checks it.

Bolick has Heath up against the cage in a clinch.
Bolick jumps guard but Heath stands there with Bolick around his waist. Bolick gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Bolick has Heath pressed against the cage, preventing Heath from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Bolick decides to pull guard.

Heath avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bolick is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Heath is aware though and is defending well.

Heath won't allow Bolick to get back to his feet.

Bolick looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Let's hope that Bolick has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Bolick is continuing to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bolick utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Bolick is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Bolick tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Heath swivels and escapes.

Bolick moves into the clinch.
Heath jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bolick walks away with a smile on his face. Heath gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Bolick shoots in looking for a takedown. Heath tries to sprawl out of it but Bolick keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Heath manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kelly Heath has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roy Bolick.
Heath shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bolick but Bolick pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Roy Bolick seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Heath tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Heath tries to clinch there but Bolick circles away.

Bolick shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Heath manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Heath preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Heath is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Heath throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Bolick is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Heath fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Bolick closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bolick lands in his opponent's guard.
Bolick slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Bolick would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Bolick's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Heath being controlled here, momentarily.

Bolick wants to stand but Heath is controlling his posture from full guard.
Heath is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Bolick dives into side control.

Bolick stands up.

Bolick closes the distance and clinches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bolick lands a hook to the side of the head.
Bolick is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Bolick tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Heath smiles and moves away.

Bolick closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Heath to the mat! Heath manages to get full guard.
Bolick slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Heath wants to sweep but no luck.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Heath trying to control the position.
Roy Bolick has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bolick stays in close to Heath's body and controls the position.
Heath is trying to control the position but Bolick postures up.
Heath wants to get back to his feet but Bolick passes into half guard.
Bolick takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Heath trying to hold on to Bolick's head to control him but Bolick postures up.
Bolick is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Bolick fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Heath, pushing him back against the cage.
Bolick has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Bolick as Heath tries to tie him up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Heath tries to pull guard but Bolick holds him up against the cage and eventually Heath drops back down to his feet.
Bolick managing to block the knees to the body from Heath.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roy Bolick showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Bolick lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Bolick lands a couple of elbows.
Bolick scoring with punches to the head and body.
Heath is looking to stand back up but Bolick counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Heath.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bolick is taking a breather. Heath says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Bolick lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Bolick trying to advance position but Heath counters by regaining guard.
Bolick is stalling in the full guard.
Bolick wants to get up but he can't break Heath's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Heath is looking to sweep but instead, Bolick has passed into half guard.
Bolick content to control rather than advance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bolick wants to get back to his feet.
Heath on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Bolick seems to be working for a kimura but Heath defends the submission attempt.
Heath is in trouble now - Bolick has advanced to mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bolick controlling the position easily from mount.
Heath is trying desperately to improve position.
Bolick breaks from Heath's wrist control and lands an elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bolick looking to finish Heath with some ground and pound. This is bad for Heath!

Heath is rocked!

Oh Heath is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Bolick get's back to his feet.

Bolick gets a clinch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Bolick.

Bolick breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Bolick lands a huge takedown. Heath is out but the ref is slow to react and Bolick lands 3 more undefended punches before the fight is stopped. Brutal finish. Heath lies on the canvas for a good minute before the doctors bring him round. Good to see he's OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Roy Bolick!
