PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kareem Riggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buster Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kareem Riggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Buster Brown!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riggs misses with the combination.

Brown darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Riggs tries to get to full guard but Brown has control of the leg.
Riggs could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brown is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Riggs is looking to escape.
Brown is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Brown missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Brown is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Brown scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Riggs might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Riggs tries to roll over but Brown keeps him under control.
Brown trying to control the action but Riggs is working from the bottom.
Well, if Brown is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Brown throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Brown is pressing down on Riggs's thigh, looking to free his foot. Riggs is holding on for now.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Riggs tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Brown swivels and escapes.
Horrible takedown attempt by Riggs or perhaps it was just good defense by Brown, which made it look bad.

Riggs gets caught flat footed, as Brown shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Brown in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Brown throws a strike but Riggs rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Riggs wants to control from the top but Brown keeps moving.
Brown pulls Riggs in to control the position.

Riggs drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Brown manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Riggs has Brown in his guard.

Brown throwing strikes but missing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Buster Brown dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Brown moves into the clinch.

Brown manages to break the clinch.
Brown keeps the fight on the outside.
As Riggs backs off Brown throws a huge counter combo but Riggs manages to avoid it all.

Brown gets a takedown into half guard.
Brown sitting and controlling from the half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Let's hope that Brown has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Brown is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Riggs doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Brown.

Brown decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Riggs fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Brown avoids it really well and circles away.

Brown shoots in and gets a takedown into Riggs's guard.
Brown is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Riggs looking for a guillotine here but Brown defends easily.
Riggs wants to improve his position but instead Brown has moved into half guard.
Brown stalling away here and it's allowed Riggs to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Brown tries to free his leg and advance position but Riggs is retaining full guard.
Brown sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Brown throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Riggs looking for a sweep. Not yet Riggs, not yet.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Riggs is looking for a triangle here but Brown uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Brown stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Buster Brown showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Brown shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Riggs manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Brown engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Brown throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Riggs to regain full guard.
Riggs throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Brown throws a strike but Riggs rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Riggs wants to stand and escape but instead Brown has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Brown is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Brown wants to control from the top but Riggs keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Brown throws an elbow that misses. Riggs uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Brown's guard. Nice move by Riggs!


Brown is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Riggs would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brown is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Brown manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Riggs tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Riggs is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Riggs goes for a double leg but Brown avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Brown continues to drive forward.

Brown tries to clinch but Riggs moves out of range.

Brown swats away the attempt to clinch by Riggs.
Brown wants to counter with a clinch but Riggs pushes him away.
Both fighters circling a little - Brown finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Riggs gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Brown to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Brown postures up in Riggs's guard and throws a big left but Riggs blocks it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Brown stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Kareem Riggs has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Buster Brown is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Brown forces Riggs back against the cage and clinches.

And that's the end of the fight!
Buster Brown comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Brown has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
