Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ruben Alcantara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, James Carter!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Illya Tyunina and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alcantara shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Alcantara is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Carter looking for a sweep. Not yet Carter, not yet.
Carter utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Carter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alcantara. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Carter looking to control.
Alcantara trying to control but Carter is working from the bottom.
Carter controlling Alcantara's posture.
Alcantara has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alcantara forces his way into half guard.
Carter tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Carter blocking the ground and pound attempt from Alcantara.
Alcantara not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Carter trying to hold on to Alcantara's head to control him but Alcantara postures up.
Carter on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Carter can do anything to dispel that myth.

Alcantara is working for a submission of some sort.
Alcantara trying to mount his opponent but Carter defends it.
Carter wants to control but Alcantara is keeping busy.

Alcantara missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Carter is trying to maintain the position but Alcantara is very close to passing his half guard.
Carter is trying to stand.
Carter wants to control but Alcantara is keeping busy.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Carter dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Alcantara fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Carter to the ground. Alcantara is now in Carter's guard.
Carter is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Alcantara pushes down on Carter's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Alcantara is trying to control the action in half guard but Carter is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Carter is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Alcantara jumps into side control!

Alcantara tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Alcantara has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Alcantara tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Carter is not content to let Alcantara control the position.

Alcantara is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Carter knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Alcantara cracks Carter with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Carter is trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ruben Alcantara dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Carter lands a jab to Alcantara's midsection.

Alcantara drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ruben Alcantara overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Alcantara accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Carter can't keep his opponent in guard - Alcantara advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Carter is trying to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alcantara looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Alcantara trying to pass the guard but Carter defending well.

Carter trying to control but Alcantara postures up.
Carter is not content to let Alcantara control the position.
Carter is trying to escape back to his feet but Alcantara uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Alcantara is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Carter knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Alcantara is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Carter has escaped the position, nice work there.
Alcantara passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Carter!

Alcantara looking to secure an arm triangle but Carter defends it well.
Alcantara in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Carter tries to reverse the position but Alcantara maintains control.

Alcantara lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Alcantara looking to secure an arm triangle but Carter defends it well.
Carter is trying desperately to improve position.
Carter wants to control but Alcantara is having none of it.

Alcantara moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Carter has worked his arm free - good work by Carter!
Alcantara sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Carter is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Alcantara creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Alcantara working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Carter can't do much from the bottom here.
Alcantara trying to control the position but Carter is working away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alcantara has hold of Carter's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Carter seems comfortable defending it but Alcantara has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Carter is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Carter is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Alcantara couldn't care less - he's delighted!
