Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Coulton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Rommel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Thomas Coulton has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thomas Coulton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Rommel!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Donatello Bradman and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Coulton gets the takedown into side control.
Rommel is trying to get back to half guard.
Coulton controls the position.
Rommel gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Rommel is trying to escape the mount.
Coulton controlling his opponent.
Coulton will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Rommel can't escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rommel is squirming around, avoiding Coulton's attempts to control the action.
Rommel is wriggling around trying to escape.

Coulton tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rommel swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Rommel is working to get back to half guard.
Rommel is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Coulton cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Coulton is breathing heavily.

Coulton wants to control but Rommel is keeping him busy.
Rommel is looking to improve his position.

Rommel looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Coulton pushes past his half guard into mount!
Rommel is desperately trying to improve his position but Coulton has a good base and remains in mount.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Coulton looking to ground and pound but Rommel is blocking nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Coulton manages to capitalize on a mistake by Rommel to take his back!
Rommel is in bad spot here.
Rommel rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


The fight stays on the outside here - Coulton looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rommel avoids the head kick by Coulton.

and Rommel holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Coulton has Rommel pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rommel manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rommel has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Coulton can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rommel thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Rommel looking for a sweep. Not yet Rommel, not yet.

Rommel is looking for a triangle but Coulton pushes his legs off easily.
Rommel wants to sweep but no luck.
Coulton trying to control the position from guard on top but Rommel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Coulton dodges the punch combination from Rommel.
Rommel doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Coulton counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Rommel!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rommel can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rommel is looking to get to half guard.
Coulton controlling from the full mount.
Rommel regains half guard.
Rommel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Coulton stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Rommel to get to his feet.
Rommel clinches but Coulton breaks the clinch

and Coulton counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rommel won't be happy with that.
Rommel is looking for a sweep.
Rommel looks to move to half guard but instead Coulton has passed into mount! Damn!
Rommel looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
The referee is taking a good look at Rommel as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Coulton!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Rommel closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Coulton to the mat! Coulton manages to get full guard.
Rommel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Coulton swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rommel is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Coulton is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Coulton has escaped and now he's on top!

Rommel had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Coulton is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Rommel Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Coulton's back instead.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Coulton rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Rommel is looking for a kimura here.

Rommel misses with a head shot. Coulton uses the momentum to regain guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Coulton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Rommel bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Rommel goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Coulton rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Rommel's guard! Nice work there by Coulton!

Thomas Coulton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rommel is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Rommel parries the strikes from Coulton easily there. Coulton is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Rommel to escape.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rommel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Coulton swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Coulton gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Rommel working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

John Rommel has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

John Rommel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Coulton has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
