Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Hunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raul Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Raul Mendez is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Daniel Hunt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Raul Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Anni Minnemäki and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendez shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hunt napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Hunt wants to get back to his feet.

Mendez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hunt knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Mendez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Hunt avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Mendez.

Mendez tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mendez has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Mendez sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Hunt is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mendez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hunt keeps working.
Mendez looks up at the clock and then as Hunt takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Mendez smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Mendez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Mendez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Hunt throws the kick towards the body but Mendez avoids it.

Mendez manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hunt on his heels. He'll look to pass Hunt's guard now, I'm sure.

Mendez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hunt fails to land with a series of punches.
Hunt slaps away a takedown attempt from Mendez, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hunt half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Some wild striking there from Hunt.
Mendez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Daniel Hunt is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Mendez takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Mendez goes for a double leg but Hunt avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hunt continues to drive forward.

Mendez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mendez lands in his opponent's guard.

Mendez drops back looking for a leg! Hunt is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hunt manages to kick Mendez off! Mendez jumps back into Hunt's guard.

Hunt wants to get back to his feet but Mendez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hunt throws a right and a left that Mendez avoids nicely.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hunt connects with a body shot.
Mendez takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Hunt throws a right and a left that Mendez avoids nicely.
No joy there for Hunt, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mendez dodges the punch combination from Hunt.
Hunt scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Mendez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hunt sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mendez somewhat.
Daniel Hunt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Raul Mendez.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hunt throws a right and a left that both miss.
Hunt lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mendez circles away quickly and effectively.

and Mendez counters with a shoot takedown. Hunt fights it but they end up in guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Mendez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hunt circles away.

Hunt scores with a one two! Mendez had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Raul Mendez has been cut.
Mendez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Mendez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Daniel Hunt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Raul Mendez.
Hunt connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hunt throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Mendez stumbling backwards into the cage! Mendez bounces back off the cage towards Hunt, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Hunt lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Hunt celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.
