PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Archie Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and RJ Cherubim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson comes to the cage accompanied by I Have a Dream. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Archie Nelson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, RJ Cherubim!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Sandra Marshall and Peter Branson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cherubim keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Cherubim wants to counter the offense by Nelson and move into the clinch position.
Nelson shoots in looking for a takedown. Cherubim tries to sprawl out of it but Nelson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cherubim manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Cherubim drives through and clinches with Nelson against the cage.
Cherubim drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Nelson gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Nelson tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Nelson works on Cherubim's body with a couple of short punches.
Cherubim unloads a knee to the mid-section. Nelson lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nelson pulls Cherubim into guard.
Nelson wants to sweep but no luck.
Nelson controls Cherubim momentarily but Cherubim frees himself.

Cherubim wants to control from the top but Nelson keeps moving.
Cherubim really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nelson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Nelson throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Nelson working for a triangle but Cherubim defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cherubim stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nelson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cherubim trying to control but Nelson is working from the bottom.
Nelson wants to stand and escape but Cherubim is having none of it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nelson trying to keep a closed guard but Cherubim is proving a slippery customer.
Nelson wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Nelson wants to sweep but no luck.
Cherubim throwing strikes but missing.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Cherubim is looking to advance position but Nelson has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Nelson working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Nelson with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Nelson looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Nelson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Cherubim can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nelson has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Cherubim's face.

Nelson is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Cherubim is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Cherubim flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Nelson anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Cherubim and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Nelson slips an arm under Cherubim chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Nelson has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Nelson is squeezing on Cherubim like an anaconda would it's prey. Cherubim fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
