PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Teller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JJ Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Max Teller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, JJ Mercer!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Mercer.
Mercer trying to control the action but Teller is working from the bottom.
Mercer is staying tight to Teller's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Mercer is looking to take a break and control but Teller is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee asks Mercer politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Mercer prefers to stall for the moment though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A lull in the action here as Mercer stalls from top position.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Mercer is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Teller will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Sloppy strikes there by Mercer.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Teller pushes Mercer away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mercer gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Teller tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mercer manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Teller feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mercer holds on and takes a little breather.

Mercer has his foot on Teller's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Teller works his way back into a safe position though.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Teller gets to his feet - Mercer follows without any prompting.
Teller moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Mercer gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Teller to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Teller has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mercer is proving hard to escape from.
Teller has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Mercer lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Teller on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Teller tries to get out of the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Teller keeping moving, preventing Mercer from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mercer looking to sit in guard and control but Teller gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Teller is fighting to break Mercer's control of his arms but Mercer is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Teller wants to get up but he can't break Mercer's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Teller trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mercer controls Teller momentarily but Teller frees himself.
Teller won't allow Mercer to sweep him here.
Mercer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Teller's guard.

Teller wants to stand and escape but Mercer is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mercer trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Mercer passes Teller's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Mercer wants to control but Teller is keeping him busy.
Teller is looking to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mercer seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Teller does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Mercer moves nicely into side control.
Mercer just content to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but JJ Mercer will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Mercer on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Teller stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Teller wants it to stay on the feet.
Mercer looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Teller is fending him off so far but Mercer persists. Nope, Teller circles away and we're back to standing.
An attempted straight right counter from Teller misses the target.
Teller lands a big right hand and follows it up with an uppercut. Oh and another big punch and a knee - Mercer can't take much more of this! Another big shot to the jaw from Teller and Mercer drops to the floor. Beaten and bloodied - he had enough there. A vicious beatdown by Teller.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:17 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Max Teller!
In defeat, JJ Mercer stepped up to the mic, saying 'My God! What a travesty! I was robbed! Robbed! I'll have revenge! I'll eat the judges children! Molest your wives! You'll pay for this...you'll all pay!!!!!'.
