Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Phoenix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyle Fretwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phoenix's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Roy Jones - Can't be touched. Lyle Fretwell has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Phoenix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lyle Fretwell!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fretwell throws a push kick but Phoenix slaps the foot to one side.
Phoenix is looking to counter the offense by Fretwell and move into the clinch.
Phoenix misses with an attempted mid kick.
Phoenix just misses with a punch to the body.
Fretwell lands with a nice body punch.
Fretwell takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Fretwell bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Fretwell motions for Phoenix to come forward. Fretwell throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Phoenix throws a jab but it's blocked by Fretwell.
Phoenix goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Fretwell works Phoenix's body with a nice hook.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Phoenix throws an overhand right that lands on Fretwell's shoulder, as Fretwell tries to avoid the shot.

Phoenix gets caught flat footed, as Fretwell shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Fretwell connects with a couple of short punches.
Fretwell stops Phoenix from standing up.
Phoenix on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Phoenix tries to get out of the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fretwell slips nicely into half guard.
Fretwell tries to pass the half guard into mount. Phoenix knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Phoenix avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Fretwell.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Fretwell thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Fretwell looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Fretwell is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Phoenix!
Phoenix knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fretwell on the ground.
Fretwell misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Phoenix tries to hold on but Fretwell postures up.
Phoenix wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Fretwell.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Phoenix is in a horrible position here. Fretwell smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Fretwell is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Phoenix to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Phoenix shrugs it off.
Fretwell trying to control but Phoenix is having none of it.

Fretwell with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Phoenix tries to buck Fretwell off but he can't manage it.
Fretwell throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Phoenix wants to get back to his feet.
Fretwell takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Fretwell has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Fretwell looking to control but Phoenix is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lyle Fretwell dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Phoenix misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Fretwell is looking to clinch but Phoenix is avoiding it.
Fretwell displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Phoenix throws out the jab.
Fretwell ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

and Fretwell counters with a takedown into side control.
Phoenix is not content to let Fretwell control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fretwell is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Phoenix looks calm but he's in trouble here. Fretwell gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Phoenix is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Fretwell lets go of the hold and Phoenix can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Lyle Fretwell!
Our winner, Lyle Fretwell, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
Paul Phoenix spoke after the fight, saying 'Yyyy... What did just happend?'.
