PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve Richards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Richards!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Hall!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hall takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Richards slips a jab and a cross from Hall.
Hall tries a low kick but Richards avoids it.

Hall changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Richards looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Richards looks to move to half guard but instead Hall has passed into mount! Damn!
Richards really wants to buck Hall off and get back to his feet.
Richards is looking to improve his position but Hall isn't that keen on the idea.
Richards wants to control but Hall is having none of it.
Richards is trying desperately to improve position.
Richards prevents Hall from taking his back.
Richards wants to hold on but Hall pushes him away.

Hall working for a guillotine from mount but Richards is in no mood to give up.
Richards is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Hall trying to control but Richards is having none of it.
Hall might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Richards kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Hall controlling his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Richards is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Richards is squirming around, avoiding Hall's attempts to control the action.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Richards defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Hall.
Hall takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Richards rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Richards wants to get back to his feet.

Hall is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Richards is just riding it out for now. Hall eventually gives up the hold.
Hall is tying to control. Richards wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Hall looks gassed!

Hall is working for a kimura but Richards is defending it quite comfortably.
Richards tries to get to full guard but Hall has control of the leg.
Richards pushes Hall off looking to stand but Hall dives back in and keeps control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Hall throws a one two combo.
Hall takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Richards lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hall tests Richards's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Hall looks for a takedown but Richards sprawls well.
Richards catches Hall with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Richards keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Richards connects with a jab.
Richards throws a series of punches but Hall moves out of range.
Hall swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Richards counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Hall shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Richards as he avoids it easily.
Richards cracks a nice hook into Hall's ribs.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Richards misses with a series of wild punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Richards dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Richards wants to clinch.
Hall does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Hall shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Richards but Richards pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Richards scores with a shot to the body.
Richards's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Richards duly obliges.


It looks like Ryan Hall has been cut.
Steve Richards is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Danga de danga de dang - Richards scores with a four punch combination!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Richards falls off balance throwing a combination
and Hall counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Ryan Hall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Richards misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Richards throws a nice looking combination but Hall bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hall falls off balance throwing a combination
and Richards counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Richards showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Hall.
Richards stuffs the takedown.
Hall misses with a takedown
enabling Richards to counter with a crisp jab.
Steve Richards has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Hall.
Hall avoids a punch combination nicely.

Richards scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Richards winds up and cracks Hall with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Hall regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Richards.

Hall working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Richards doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Richards manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Richards is sitting in close to Hall's body. Hall has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Richards is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Richards is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Hall.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Ryan Hall!
