Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brian Cardenas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hydro Sumo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brian Cardenas has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brian Cardenas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hydro Sumo!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jonathan Paton and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sumo throws a head kick that misses.
Sumo misses with a kick to the body.
Cardenas shoots in for a takedown but Sumo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Sumo tries a head kick but it misses.
Sumo throws a nice head kick!
Sumo misses with a body kick.
Cardenas fails with the takedown.
Sumo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cardenas has closed the distance and engaged Sumo in a clinch.
Cardenas jumps guard but Sumo stands there with Cardenas around his waist. Cardenas gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Cardenas. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cardenas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sumo keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Cardenas takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Sumo ducks under a wild hook from Cardenas.
Hydro Sumo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sumo misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sumo connects with a jab.
Sumo connects with a leg kick. Cardenas looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

A slow jab from Cardenas misses its intended target.
Sumo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sumo throws a head kick but Cardenas moves out of range.

Sumo throws a sloppy head kick and Cardenas moves out of range easily.
Cardenas really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Cardenas just misses with a punch to the body.
Sumo throws a head kick that misses.
Cardenas throwing a counter right hand but Sumo manages to avoid it.
Cardenas throws the left hand but Sumo avoids the punch easily.
Cardenas uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Cardenas shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cardenas was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Cardenas is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Sumo will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Sumo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cardenas wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Cardenas decides to stand up, so the ref orders Sumo to his feet.
Cardenas misses with a wild body shot.

Cardenas drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sumo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Sumo holds on and takes a little breather.
Sumo trying to keep a closed guard but Cardenas is proving a slippery customer.

Cardenas stands and steps away. Sumo gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Sumo misses with a body kick.
Sumo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Cardenas dives in for a single leg takedown but Sumo sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Cardenas looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Sumo!

Sumo wants to control but Cardenas postures up.
Sumo is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Cardenas is staying active.
Cardenas is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Sumo will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Cardenas swings around for an armbar but Sumo sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Cardenas's guard.
Sumo working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Cardenas can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sumo controls the pace.
Sumo wants to control from the top but Cardenas keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Hydro Sumo will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Sumo throws a sloppy head kick and Cardenas moves out of range easily.
Sumo throws a series of punches but Cardenas avoids them all with ease.
Hydro Sumo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sumo throws a head kick that half lands.
Cardenas uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Sumo.
Sumo looks to land a body kick but Cardenas moved away.
Cardenas fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Sumo throws a sloppy head kick and Cardenas moves out of range easily.
Hydro Sumo seems to be getting the better of the standup.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sumo throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Cardenas.
Cardenas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sumo throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

A head kick misses from Sumo.
Cardenas avoids the head kick by Sumo.
Sumo thumps Cardenas with a low kick.

Cardenas feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Sumo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Cardenas will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Cardenas stands and steps away. Sumo gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Sumo throws the kick towards the body but Cardenas avoids it.
Sumo pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Sumo throws a head kick that misses.
Hydro Sumo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cardenas shoots for a double leg takedown but Sumo sprawls well. He's pushed Cardenas's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Cardenas fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sumo sprawls well initially but Cardenas persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Cardenas slips a nice elbow through Sumo's hands, connecting with Sumo's forehead.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cardenas is trying to control the action in half guard but Sumo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Brian Cardenas overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sumo rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cardenas moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Hydro Sumo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Sumo lands a front kick.

Cardenas feints and as Sumo raises his hands in defense, Cardenas changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Sumo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sumo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cardenas does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cardenas wants to get back to his feet.

Sumo wants to pass the guard but Cardenas is defending well.
Cardenas is trying to stand.
Sumo wants to stand up but Cardenas is controlling the position.
Sumo frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Sumo goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Cardenas turns into him and now he's in Sumo's guard.

Sumo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cardenas gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Cardenas stands and steps away. Sumo gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Cardenas dives in and grabs Sumo's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sumo pushes down on Cardenas's head and hops out.

Sumo scores with a spinning back kick!
Sumo throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Cardenas's head.
Sumo moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Cardenas shoots in for a double leg but Sumo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
A head kick misses from Sumo.
Sumo pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A solid leg kick lands there for Sumo.
Cardenas avoids a kick to the body.
Cardenas doesn't manage to clinch there - Sumo circles away.

Cardenas moves out of range of the body kick.
Sumo throws a sloppy head kick and Cardenas moves out of range easily.
Cardenas is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Sumo tries a head kick but it misses.
Sumo throws a leg kick which misses Cardenas's front leg but catches the back leg as Cardenas tries to avoid it.
Cardenas takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cardenas shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sumo's guard.

Hydro Sumo is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Hydro Sumo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Sumo winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
