PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kane Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Fitness (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miller kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Jack N Box. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kane Miller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Fitness!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from Miller. Those never looked like landing.
Kane Miller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fitness closes the distance and pushes Miller back into the ropes.

Miller has hold of one of Fitness's legs. Fitness is fighting the takedown attempt but Miller gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Fitness keeping moving, preventing Miller from controlling successfully.
Fitness really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Miller. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Miller advances position into side control!
Fitness is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Miller asserts his dominance and retains side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fitness looking for a sweep but Miller has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Miller tries to control but Fitness wriggling away.
Fitness is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Fitness tries to lock up and control but Miller gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Miller is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Fitness can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Miller scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Fitness?

Miller trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Miller cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Miller scoring with strikes but Fitness is staying in there.
Fitness taking shots to the head.
Miller with a couple of short strikes.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Miller lands a big shot there that rocks Fitness but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Miller wants to control the pace but Fitness is squirming around nicely.

Miller looking for a guillotine from mount but Fitness is having none of it.

Miller lands with some strikes.
Miller postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Fitness looks a forlorn figure.
Fitness is squirming around, avoiding Miller's attempts to control the action.
Miller is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Miller trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Miller has hold of Fitness's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Fitness manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Miller controlling the position easily from mount.
Miller scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Miller trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Miller has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Miller scores with a couple of good head shots there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kane Miller dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Miller lands a left and a right that send Fitness crashing to the mat, dazed. Miller thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Fitness is rocked!

Fitness closes the distance and clinches.
Fitness is still on wobbly legs! Can Miller finish him?
Fitness takes a knee to the side of the body.
Miller slowing the pace effectively.

Miller tightens his grip and picks Fitness up, before dumping him to the ground. Fitness manages to land in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fitness wants to stand and escape but Miller is having none of it.
Fitness seems to have recovered his senses.
Fitness can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Miller controls the pace.
Fitness trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Fitness is breathing heavily.

Fitness is working an open guard so Miller takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Miller is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Fitness can do to turn this around?

Miller forces Fitness back against the ropes and clinches.

Fitness ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Fitness no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Miller trying to control the position from guard on top but Fitness is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Fitness is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Miller is controlling him.

Miller drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Miller jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Miller stands and steps away. Fitness gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Miller scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Fitness decides to pull guard.

Miller content to stall in guard here.
Fitness is looking to stand up but Miller isn't so interested in that idea.
Miller scoring with some ground and pound.
Miller chips away with some ground and pound.
Miller keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Fitness's head.

Miller stands and steps away. Fitness gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Miller throws a combination. Fitness tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Miller stands up and waves to Fitness to follow him.
Miller ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Kane Miller is winning the standup battle so far.

Miller manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Fitness on his heels. He'll look to pass Fitness's guard now, I'm sure.

Miller cracks Fitness with a solid left hand.

Miller advances to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kane Miller dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Miller shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fitness pinned against the ropes. Fitness gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Fitness lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
No luck for Miller with that takedown attempt.

Miller clinches up with Fitness and pushes him back against the ropes.

Fitness gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Kane Miller overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Miller is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Fitness's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Fitness takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Miller makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Miller.

Fitness gets to his feet. Miller looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Kane Miller is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Miller uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fitness.

Fitness clinches up against the ropes.
Miller lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Miller pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Fitness clinches.

Miller breaks the clinch.
Miller shoots in for a double leg but Fitness sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kane Miller. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Miller throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Fitness.

Fitness throws a counter combo.
Miller misses with a series of wild punches.
Fitness unleashes a big counter combination but Miller bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Fitness lands an overhand right.

Fitness moves into the clinch successfully.

Miller manages to break the clinch.

Miller closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Fitness did well to prevent Miller getting side control.
Fitness has hold of Miller's hands but Miller slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Miller seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fitness does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Miller lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Miller decides to return to a standing position.

Miller lands a two punch combo.
Kane Miller is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Fitness jabs at Miller's body.

Miller darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Fitness wants to control but Miller is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Fitness is trying to stand.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kane Miller showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Miller, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Kane Miller started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
