PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Al Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cedric Caraan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Caraan's choice of entrance music: TubThumping(I get Knockdown). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Al Drake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cedric Caraan!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drake lunges at Caraan with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Caraan's hand.
Drake lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Cedric Caraan has been cut.
Drake misses with a few strikes there.
Drake lands the left hand.

Drake clinches up against the cage.

Drake turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Drake manages to end up in side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Drake trying to control the position but Caraan is working away.
Caraan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Drake wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Caraan lands a little strike from the bottom.
Caraan felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Caraan takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Drake decides to stand up, so the ref orders Caraan to his feet.
Drake is looking to clinch but Caraan is avoiding it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drake tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Caraan paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Drake connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.


That has opened up Cedric Caraan's cut even more.
Caraan dives in and grabs Drake's left leg, looking for a takedown. Drake pushes down on Caraan's head and hops out.
Drake swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Drake connects with a looping right hand.
Caraan shoots and misses
and Drake connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Drake darts in and clinches Caraan up against the cage.

Caraan is fighting off a takedown attempt but Drake is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Caraan to the mat. Caraan regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Caraan has his foot on Drake's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Drake works his way back into a safe position though.
Drake slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Drake thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Drake not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Caraan is looking for a triangle but Drake pushes his legs off easily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Caraan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Drake can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Drake postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Drake wants to pass the guard but Caraan is keeping the position.
Drake content to stall in guard here.

Caraan has momentary wrist control but Drake slips an elbow through the middle.
Drake trying to control but Caraan is working from the bottom.
Drake knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Caraan on the ground.
Drake is in close to Caraan's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Caraan looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Drake controlling from the top position.
Caraan is trying to control the position but Drake postures up.
Drake is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Caraan trying to keep a closed guard but Drake is proving a slippery customer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Drake trying to control but Caraan is working from the bottom.
Drake makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Caraan has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Drake doesn't defend quickly enough and Caraan has managed to lock this one up! Can Drake escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Caraan on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Cedric Caraan!
