PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dave Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cannon Boy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Dave Bates has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Dave Bates seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dave Bates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cannon Boy!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Dean Styles and Reed Andrews.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boy takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Boy digs a good body shot into Bates's ribs.
Boy wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
A shot to the liver by Boy. Beautiful body shot.
Boy misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Boy throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Bates counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bates.
Bates will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Bates got a little sloppy there for a moment and Boy has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bates has managed to get both his arms back between Boy's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boy utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Boy had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bates defends it easily.
Bates really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Bates works over Boy with some ground and pound from guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Boy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bates's guard.

Bates looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Boy passes into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boy content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Boy thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bates's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Boy content to control rather than advance.
Bates missing with punches from the bottom.
Boy sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Boy's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Boy is looking for a kimura but Bates is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Boy to get the leverage.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Bates is not content to let Boy control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boy will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Boy connects with a combination that backs up Bates into the cage. Boy lands a flurry of punches that gets past Bates's guard. Bates is down and the referee has seen enough. It is all over! Boy bursts into tears - this win obviously means a huge amount to him.
