The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith shoots in for a takedown but Lamberto shows good takedown defense.
Smith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Smith connects with a good right hand that stumbles Lamberto. Lamberto circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Lamberto stuffs the takedown.
John Lamberto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aaron Smith.
Smith takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Lamberto throws a right hand that Smith ducks under and follows up with a left that Smith also avoids with ease.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lamberto wants to control but Smith postures up.
Lamberto really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Despite being in the dominant position, Aaron Smith just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Smith avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Smith shoots in but Lamberto avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Smith controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Lamberto not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lamberto can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Smith controls the pace.

Smith sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lamberto's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Smith wants to pass to mount but Lamberto is defending the position.
Smith takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Smith content to control rather than advance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Aaron Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Horrible takedown by Smith or perhaps it was just good defense by Lamberto which made him look bad.

and Smith counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Lamberto!

Smith jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Lamberto is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Lamberto and Smith has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
You can see the frustration on Lamberto's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Smith decides to stand back up. Smith steps back and let's Lamberto get back to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lamberto knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Smith has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Aaron Smith is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
