PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mike Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Antonio Silva!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Bart Greer and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jones won't be happy with that.
Jones struggling a bit here.
Jones is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Silva is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Silva looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Jones wants to control but Silva postures up.

Silva wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jones, who protects the arm well.
Jones is trying to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Silva tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Silva has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Jones is trying to control Silva's posture but Silva avoids it.
Jones tries to buck Silva off but Silva is having none of it.

Jones manages to get back to half guard.
Silva wants to pass the guard but Jones is defending well.
Silva thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are battling for position here. Jones manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Jones is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Silva is controlling him.
Silva must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jones scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Silva scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Jones is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Silva has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Jones is looking for a sweep.

Jones is not content to let Silva control the position.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Jones wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Silva thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Jones wants to get back to his feet but Silva drags him back down.

Silva is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jones knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Jones is not content to let Silva control the position.
Jones is trying to control Silva's posture but Silva avoids it.
Jones tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Silva wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Silva in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Jones is pushing Silva's head away, looking to escape. Silva manages to hold on to the position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jones is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Silva has just dragged him back down to the mat.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Jones is not content to let Silva control the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Silva dives in for a single leg takedown but Jones sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up but Silva swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Jones connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Jones fails in his attempt to clinch.
Jones connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Jones lands a glancing blow to the side of Silva's head.

Silva shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jones is trying to defend but Silva finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Silva seems to be working for a kimura but Jones defends the submission attempt.

Silva is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jones is just riding it out for now. Silva eventually gives up the hold.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Antonio Silva dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Jones swings for the body but Silva moves out of range.
Silva tries for a takedown but Jones sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Silva circles away from the clinch attempt.
Silva takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Silva fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Jones connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Silva tries to clinch up but Jones circles away and keeps his distance.
Jones tests Silva's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Nice cross by Jones.
Mike Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Antonio Silva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jones forces Silva back against the cage and clinches.
Silva looking for a takedown.
Mike Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio Silva.

Silva tries to pull guard but Jones won't allow it.
Jones lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Silva backwards.

Silva is working for takedown but Jones is calmly controlling the position for now.
Silva is breathing heavily.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Jones.
A short right from Jones on the inside.
Jones lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Silva backwards.
Jones scores with a nice hook to the head.
Jones lands a big right hand that drops Silva! The killer instinct kicks in and Jones finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Jones!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Jones!
