PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Rabbane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cage McCoy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Mauricio Rocha and Alexandre Firmino.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCoy swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Rabbane shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rabbane showed some decent athleticism there.
Rabbane prevents McCoy from improving his position.
McCoy wants to get back to his feet.

Rabbane is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and McCoy defends it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McCoy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rabbane. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rabbane tries to pass the half guard into mount. McCoy knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Rabbane is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. McCoy doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rabbane.
Rabbane wants to take a breather but McCoy is having none of it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rabbane in particular looking to stall.
Rabbane is trying to control. McCoy wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Rabbane is trying to work for a single leg takedown but McCoy pulls him back up using the underhooks.
McCoy doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

McCoy lands with a light punch inside.
McCoy unloads a knee to the mid-section. Rabbane lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

McCoy works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Rabbane looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
McCoy throws a strike but Rabbane rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

McCoy seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rabbane postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rabbane drops back looking for a leg! McCoy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and McCoy manages to kick Rabbane off! Rabbane jumps back into McCoy's guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

McCoy throws a head kick but Rabbane moves out of range.

McCoy closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
McCoy gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
McCoy tries to work over Rabbane's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
McCoy tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Rabbane avoids it.
McCoy pushes off an throws an elbow but Rabbane leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Rabbane wants a takedown but no success here.
McCoy tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
McCoy can't find room to land a body shot as Rabbane controls the action.

McCoy with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

McCoy manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

McCoy throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. McCoy obliges.
McCoy prevents a takedown attempt there.
McCoy lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
McCoy throws a punch but it's blocked by Rabbane.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, McCoy just misses with a elbow thrown towards Rabbane's brow.

McCoy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Nice takedown defense from McCoy. No joy for Rabbane on that attempt.

Rabbane gets tackled into the cage by McCoy. McCoy maintains the clinch.
Cage McCoy seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
McCoy tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Rabbane wants to break the clinch but can't.
McCoy can't find room to land a body shot as Rabbane controls the action.

McCoy has picked Rabbane up - he's going for a ride! McCoy dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Carlos Rabbane overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rabbane is not content to let McCoy control the position.

Rabbane slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Rabbane has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Rabbane manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
McCoy is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Rabbane is defending well for now.
McCoy scores with an uppercut up the middle.

McCoy manages to break the clinch.
McCoy tries to clinch there but Rabbane circles away.

McCoy gets a double leg takedown into Rabbane's guard.
Rabbane trying to keep a closed guard but McCoy is proving a slippery customer.
McCoy is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there.
McCoy has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rabbane is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! McCoy has his hands clasped together but Rabbane extends and breaks McCoy's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Rabbane.
