PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steven Walter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Hill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 23 - 2, fighting out of London, Steven Walter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bobby Hill!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hill tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A punch combination from Walter misses.
Walter throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Hill's head.


It looks like Bobby Hill has been cut.
Hill lands with a hook. Walter tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Walter is looking to clinch but Hill is avoiding it.
Hill throws a counter combo.
Walter moves out of range of the strikes.
Hill jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Walter is looking to clinch.
Walter throws a series of punches but Hill avoids them all with ease.

Walter has Hill up against the cage in a clinch.
Hill wants to stall.
Our sources have told us that Walter has been working on his elbows in the gym.
Walter blocking some punches.
Hill lands a right hand that snaps the head of Walter backwards.

Walter jumps into guard, dragging Hill to the mat.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Walter trying to keep a closed guard but Hill is proving a slippery customer.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Walter has control of Hill's left arm, preventing Hill from doing any damage.
Walter trying to control the position.
Walter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hill is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hill controlling from the top position.
Walter keeping moving, preventing Hill from controlling successfully.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Walter throws a one two combo.
Walter fails with the takedown.
Hill tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Walter darts in looking for a takedown but Hill gets double underhooks and turns Walter into the cage.
Walter wants to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Walter darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Hill is trying to maintain the position but Walter is very close to passing his half guard.
Walter performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Walter passes the guard and advances to mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Walter trying to control but Hill is having none of it.
Walter is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hill is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Walter sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Walter goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Hill is on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Bobby Hill's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hill throws a head kick that misses.
Walter throws a head kick but Hill moves out of range.
Walter fails in his attempt to clinch.
Walter misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Walter doesn't manage to clinch there - Hill circles away.
Walter moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Hill pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Walter uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hill.
Walter is looking to counter with a body kick.
Walter tries to clinch up
and Hill counters with a stiff right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hill takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Hill avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Steven Walter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Walter throws a sloppy head kick
and Walter takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Walter is trying to break the clinch but Hill is controlling him.
Hill scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Walter tries for a takedown. No joy.
Walter crunches a lovely knee into Hill's ribcage.
Hill trying to stall but Walter improves his position.

Walter breaks from the clinch.
Walter tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Walter tries to clinch up.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Hill, as that shot connected.
Walter throws a head kick that Hill semi-blocks.

Walter closes the distance and pushes Hill back into the cage.
Hill fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Walter tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Walter goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Walter wants to break the clinch but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Walter swings away with an uppercut that misses.
A knee to the head by Walter.
Hill gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Walter.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hill lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Walter tightens his grip and picks Hill up, before dumping him to the ground. Hill manages to land in guard.
Walter trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Hill manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Hill's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Walter is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Steven Walter overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Walter is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hill is aware though and is defending well.
Walter is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hill can do to turn this around?

Hill controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Walter has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Hill has passed into side control.
Walter struggling a bit here.
Walter manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Walter tries to stand and escape but Hill is controlling the position.
Walter is taking a breather. Hill says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Hill is defending against the submission attempts here by Walter.
Walter misses with a head shot. Hill uses the momentum to regain guard.
Walter wants to control from the top but Hill keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Bobby Hill's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Walter tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hill paws at him with a jab and circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Walter looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hill now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Hill avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Walter wants to clinch up but Hill keeps it at a distance.
Walter scores with a jab to the body.
Walter fails with an attempt to clinch.
A slow jab from Hill misses its intended target.
Hill throws a body shot but no joy.
Hill throws a looping overhand right but Walter ducks down to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Walter drives through and clinches with Hill against the cage.
Walter prevents a body shot from Hill.
Walter is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Walter is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Hill can't fight it off and eventually Walter manages to take the fight to the floor. Hill looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hill wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Walter trying to control the position from guard on top but Hill is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Walter passes Hill's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Hill wants to control but Walter is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Walter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hill keeps working.
Walter wants to free his trapped foot but Hill is holding on for dear life with his legs.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hill wants to get back to full guard.
Walter is looking to stall here but Hill recovers full guard.

Walter throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Walter wants to control from the top but Hill keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Walter digs a good hook to Hill's body.
Steven Walter is winning the standup battle so far.

Walter clinches up against the cage.
Walter tries to pull guard but Hill won't allow it.
Walter throws an elbow that misses.
Steven Walter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Walter escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Walter walks into a jab.

Walter fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Hill, pushing him back against the cage.
A short right from Hill.
Hill swings wildly with an uppercut but Walter uses good head movement to avoid it.
Bobby Hill has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hill looking to stall.
Hill tries to throw a body punch but Walter avoids it by throwing Hill back against the cage.

Walter lands a shoulder strike.
Hill misses with the head strike.
A head punch on the inside from Hill fails to land.
Hill displaying some good clinch control by pressing Walter up against the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Hill.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hill tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Walter's elbow.
Hill has a couple of punches blocked by Walter.
Walter stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Walter lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Hill or not.

And that's the end of the fight!
Steven Walter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Walter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
