The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Svensson leaves Matthews with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Svensson throws a sloppy head kick and Matthews moves out of range easily.

Svensson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Matthews can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Svensson wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Matthews uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Svensson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Matthews. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Matthews is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Matthews frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Poor strikes thrown by Matthews there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Svensson is squirming around, avoiding Matthews's attempts to control the action.

Matthews wants to finish this one by submission but Svensson is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Matthews.

Matthews really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
