PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roger Riddle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shoto Murasaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Murasaki's choice of entrance music: PRIDE FC Theme. Roger Riddle has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Roger Riddle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shoto Murasaki!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yukihiro Shimada and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Murasaki keeps the fight on the outside.
Murasaki blocks a head kick by Riddle.
Murasaki throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Riddle is looking to counter with head kicks.
Murasaki throws a nice looking combination but Riddle bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Riddle closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Riddle is fighting off a takedown attempt but Murasaki is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Riddle to the mat. Riddle regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Riddle holds on and takes a little breather.
Riddle wants to sweep but no luck.
Riddle really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Riddle is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Murasaki is controlling him.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Murasaki wants to free his trapped foot but Riddle is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Riddle gets control of Murasaki's arms and successfully pulls guard. Riddle will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Murasaki tries to free his leg and advance position but Riddle is retaining full guard.

Riddle has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Murasaki off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Murasaki darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Riddle is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Murasaki is controlling him.
Murasaki won't allow Riddle to sweep him here.
Riddle is working hard here to advance position.
Murasaki not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Riddle wants to sweep here but Murasaki controlling him for the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That was a close round but I would say that Roger Riddle will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Riddle tries to clinch up but Murasaki circles away and keeps his distance.
Murasaki moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Murasaki swings for the body but Riddle moves out of range.

and Murasaki counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Riddle rushes Murasaki and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Murasaki wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Riddle jumps guard but Murasaki stands there with Riddle around his waist. Riddle gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Riddle manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Riddle manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Murasaki manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Riddle postures up and lands a big shot to Murasaki's brow.
Riddle will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Riddle postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Murasaki is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Riddle, into his guard.

Riddle wants to sweep here but Murasaki controlling him for the moment.
Riddle is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Murasaki moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Riddle throws a big elbow that misses.
Riddle loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Riddle postures up in Murasaki's guard and throws a big left but Murasaki blocks it.
Murasaki is pulling down on Riddle's head. It's preventing any offense from Riddle, at least for the moment.

Riddle drops back, looking for a kneebar! Murasaki looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Murasaki looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Murasaki!

Riddle sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Riddle is looking to improve his position.

Riddle is doing well to control the position and prevent Murasaki from advancing to side control.
Shoto Murasaki has got the better of the ground game so far.
Murasaki prevents Riddle from improving his position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Shoto Murasaki will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Riddle fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Murasaki, pushing him back against the cage.

Riddle is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Murasaki is trying to trip Riddle. He has hold of a leg but Riddle is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Murasaki persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Murasaki takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Riddle manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Murasaki turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Murasaki manages to end up in side control.
Riddle is trying to control Murasaki's posture but Murasaki avoids it.
Riddle is looking for a sweep.
Riddle regains half guard.

Riddle has one foot on Murasaki's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Riddle tries to close the distance and clinch up but Murasaki swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Murasaki with the counter takedown but Riddle avoids it easily.
Shoto Murasaki is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Riddle fails with an attempt to clinch.
Riddle wants to clinch up but Murasaki keeps it at a distance.

Murasaki tries to keep at a distance but Riddle has taken the fight into the clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Murasaki is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Murasaki won't allow Riddle to sweep him here.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Murasaki seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Roger Riddle.
I think Riddle has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
