PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Shepard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Touko Pouko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shepard's entrance music is Deftones- Ferticeira . A fine choice. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paul Aken and Paulsen Ambrosius.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shepard gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Pouko wants to control from the top but Shepard keeps moving.
Pouko is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Shepard looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Shepard is pulling down on Pouko's head to control his posture.
Pouko not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shepard will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Let's hope that Pouko has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Shepard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Pouko avoids a punch combination nicely.
Shepard throws a series of punches but Pouko moves out of range.
Shepard tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pouko swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A head kick misses from Shepard.
Shepard finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
It seemed like Pouko was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

and Pouko counters with a three punch combo that has Shepard backing up. Shepard nods at Pouko to acknowledge the strikes.
Shepard will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Pouko's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Pouko thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Shepard knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pouko on the ground.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Pouko shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Shepard as he avoids it easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Shepard swings for the body but Pouko moves out of range.

Pouko closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Shepard to the mat! Shepard manages to get full guard.
Pouko is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Pouko is pushing down on Shepard's leg trying to pass to half guard. Shepard is fighting to maintain full guard but Pouko has managed to sneak the leg through.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Shepard wants to control but Pouko is keeping busy.

Pouko is trying to work for a kimura but Shepard is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Pouko has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Shepard defend it? Pouko steps over the head and cranks it - Shepard is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Pouko!
