PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jordon Reid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Garrett Hawke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jordon Reid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Garrett Hawke!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hawke drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Hawke tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Hawke tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Reid is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reid makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Reid.
Hawke postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reid controlling the position.
Reid not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Reid is really struggling to control Hawke but he's trying to hold on to the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hawke accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hawke is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Reid not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Hawke got a little sloppy there for a moment and Reid has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hawke has managed to get both his arms back between Reid's legs - danger averted.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hawke bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Reid is looking to reverse the position.
Reid really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Hawke lands a nice forearm strike.
Hawke cracks Reid with a big right hand but Reid just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Hawke misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
An elbow from Hawke crashes against the mat.
Reid wants to control but Hawke postures up.
Reid is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hawke's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Reid gets back to full guard.

Hawke stays in close to Reid's body and controls the position.
Reid is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Hawke trying to control but Reid is working from the bottom.
Hawke loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Reid wants to improve his position but instead Hawke has moved into half guard.
Reid has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hawke is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Hawke moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Reid.
Sloppy strikes there by Hawke.
Reid is looking for a sweep.
Reid is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hawke's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hawke trying to control the action but Reid is working from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Reid scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Hawke moves into range and clinches up with Reid.
Reid tries to pull guard but Hawke forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Reid slows down the pace here.
Reid lands an uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Reid jumps guard and drags Hawke to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Hawke postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Reid controls Hawke momentarily but Hawke frees himself.
Reid keeping moving, preventing Hawke from controlling successfully.

Hawke is breathing heavily.
Hawke tries to free his leg and advance position but Reid is retaining full guard.

Reid working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hawke doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hawke manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hawke wants to control from the top but Reid keeps moving.
Reid manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hawke manages to get himself to full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Reid is looking to work some ground and pound but Hawke has wrist control.

Reid's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
We've been informed that Hawke has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Hawke has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Hawke has managed to clinch.
Reid tries to stall but Hawke uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Hawke is trying to push Reid away but Reid has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Reid misses with a knee to the head.
The referee calls for Reid to work.

Reid breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Hawke moves into the clinch successfully.

Hawke is trying to trip Reid. He has hold of a leg but Reid is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Hawke persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Reid has his foot on Hawke's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hawke works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jordon Reid will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Reid is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Hawke stalling in the clinch but Reid improves position.

Hawke takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hawke tries to land knees in the clinch but Reid avoids the damage to the body.

Reid pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Hawke is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Reid is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hawke gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jordon Reid. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Reid tries to work over Hawke's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Hawke prevents Reid from breaking the clinch.
Reid tries to score a body lock takedown but Hawke shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Reid creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Reid throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Hawke blocks it with crossed arms.

Hawke blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Reid has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
A frustrated look appears on Reid's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Reid doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Hawke blocks a body shot from Reid.
Reid is stalling here.

Hawke manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Reid is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hawke can do anything to dispel that myth.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Hawke looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Reid with a flurry of punches that miss.
Reid will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Reid controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Reid decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hawke closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Reid did well to prevent Hawke getting side control.
Reid is looking for a sweep. Hawke is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Garrett Hawke.
I think Hawke has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
