Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Erich Gillespie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Declan Morris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Declan Morris!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Leandro Rodrigues and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Morris drives through and clinches with Gillespie against the cage.
Morris is trying to maintain a safe position but Gillespie gets an underhook and turns Morris into the cage.

Gillespie breaks the clinch.
Declan Morris seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gillespie tries to clinch there but Morris circles away.
Gillespie wants to clinch up but Morris keeps it at a distance.
Morris raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Gillespie avoids a kick to the body.
Gillespie drops down looking for a counter takedown but Morris sprawls and moves away.

Gillespie gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Morris pulls Gillespie into guard.
Gillespie is looking to work some ground and pound but Morris has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Morris can do anything to dispel that myth.

Morris looking for a guillotine here but Gillespie defends easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Morris has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gillespie can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gillespie stands up out of Morris's guard for a moment - Morris manages to land a nice upkick.

Morris wants to sweep here but Gillespie controlling him for the moment.
Gillespie scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Gillespie will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Gillespie really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

and Morris counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Gillespie!
Gillespie is looking to regain half guard here but Morris keeps moving and retains side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Declan Morris dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Gillespie stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gillespie wants it to stay on the feet.
Morris changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gillespie tries to avoid it but Morris manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gillespie to the ground. Gillespie escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Gillespie half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Erich Gillespie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Declan Morris.

Morris working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The fighters are battling for position here. Gillespie manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Gillespie thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Gillespie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gillespie connects with a nice short shot to Morris's temple.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Morris wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gillespie keeps working.

That was a close second round but I would say that Erich Gillespie will probably get the nod.

Gillespie throws a right and a left that Morris avoids nicely.
Morris shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gillespie as he jumps to the side.

As Gillespie backs off Morris throws a huge counter combo but Gillespie manages to avoid it all.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Declan Morris comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Morris has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
