PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Burt Watson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Watson has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Burt Watson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Bob!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Gwen Towbar and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watson checks a leg kick nicely.
Watson is breathing heavily.

Watson moves into the clinch.
Bob has Watson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Watson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Watson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Bob drops back looking for a leg! Watson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Watson manages to kick Bob off! Bob jumps back into Watson's guard.
Bob wants to control from the top but Watson keeps moving.

Bob seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Watson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Bob is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Well, if Bob is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Watson dives in for a single leg takedown but Bob sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Bob shoots in for a takedown but Watson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

A little feinted left hand from Watson on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Watson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Watson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bob sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
A countering left hand to the body from Bob misses.
Watson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Watson wants it to stay on the feet.

As Bob tries to get set, Watson tries to push him back and clinch up but Bob manages to avoid the attempt.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

so Watson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Watson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Bob shoots for a double leg takedown but Watson sprawls well. He's pushed Bob's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Bob is trying to force a seperation but Watson has the dominant position.

Watson pulls guard effortlessly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bob trying to control but Watson is working from the bottom.
Watson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bob is controlling him.

Watson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bob doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bob manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
