PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Serget (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rudy Pu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Serget comes to the cage accompanied by Friends in lower places. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Bob Serget!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rudy Pu!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pu throws a shot from downtown. Serget moves away and avoids it.
Pu swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Serget counters with a takedown into side control.
Pu felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Serget lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Pu is looking for a sweep.
Pu is not content to let Serget control the position.

Serget is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pu is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pu wants to control but Serget postures up.
Pu is pushing Serget's head away, looking to escape. Serget manages to hold on to the position though.
Pu is trying to control Serget's posture but Serget avoids it.

Pu tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Pu seems a little lost for a moment, as Serget dominates the positioning.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
You can see the frustration on Pu's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Serget ducks under a wild hook from Pu.
As Pu tries to get set, Serget tries to push him back and clinch up but Pu manages to avoid the attempt.
Serget throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pu's waist but Pu gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Serget off to one side.
Serget dodges the punch combination from Pu.
Serget appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

and Serget counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Pu makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Pu.
Pu keeping moving, preventing Serget from controlling successfully.

Serget has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Serget stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pu swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pu is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Serget is controlling him.

Serget's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Pu comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Pu throws a looping overhand right but Serget ducks down to avoid it.
Pu throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Serget sees it coming and avoids it easily.
It looked like Serget was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Pu misses with a double jab

and Serget counters by moving into the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A head punch on the inside from Pu fails to land.
Pu fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Serget goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pu prevents it.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Pu.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Serget dominated that round.
That's time! Serget's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Serget moves out of range as Pu strikes.
Serget takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Serget scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Pu is looking to regain half guard here but Serget keeps moving and retains side control.
Pu can't do much from the bottom here.
Pu is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Serget is staying active.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pu tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Serget presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Serget prevents Pu from getting the reversal.
Serget is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pu can do to turn this around?
Pu tries to lock up and control but Serget gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Pu can't escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Serget wants to control the pace but Pu is squirming around nicely.
Pu holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Serget tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Serget takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Pu wants to control but Serget is having none of it.
Pu is desperately trying to improve his position but Serget has a good base and remains in mount.
Serget controlling the pace for now.
Serget can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pu is looking to escape.

Serget misses with a head shot.

Pu is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Serget throwing strikes but Pu recovers to half guard. A much better position.
Serget wants to pass to mount but Pu is defending the position.
Pu tries to kick Serget off in order to stand up. Serget Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Pu managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Serget.
Serget fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Serget tries to move into full mount but can't pass Pu's legs.
Serget lands an elbow.
Serget remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Pu is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Serget has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Serget has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pu wants to control but Serget postures up.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Pu throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Pu tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Serget counters with a one-two to the body.

Pu has Serget up against the cage in a clinch.
Pu misses with a short punch on the inside.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Pu.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Serget shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Serget showed some decent athleticism there.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Pu tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Serget was well out of range. Poor timing from Pu.

Serget is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Pu wants to sweep here but Serget controlling him for the moment.

Serget moves in looking to clinch but Pu pushes him off.

Rudy Pu is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Pu throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Bob Serget is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Pu swings for the body but Serget moves out of range.

Bob Serget showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Serget, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Bob Serget decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
