PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zimowit Pokora (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erkin Aksoy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Zimowit Pokora!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Erkin Aksoy!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Winston Alpacca and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pokora avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Aksoy fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Pokora sprawls well initially but Aksoy persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Aksoy is thwarting Pokora's attempts to control the position.
Pokora is refusing to be controlled, as Aksoy sits in half guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pokora pushes Aksoy off looking to stand but Aksoy dives back in and keeps control.
Pokora is staying active underneath Aksoy, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Pokora has one foot on Aksoy's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Pokora tries to keep at a distance but Aksoy has taken the fight into the clinch.

Pokora's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Pokora darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Aksoy has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pokora is working away from the top position though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Aksoy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pokora. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Aksoy throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Pokora moves into full mount! Aksoy won't be happy about that!
Pokora lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Aksoy hang on?
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pokora breaks from Aksoy's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Aksoy is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Pokora jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Aksoy manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Aksoy takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Pokora tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pokora has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Pokora postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Aksoy can't do much from the bottom here.

Pokora stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Aksoy tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Pokora clinches up with Aksoy and pushes him back against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Pokora gets control of Aksoy's arms and successfully pulls guard. Pokora will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Pokora has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Pokora shoots in for a double leg but Aksoy sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Pokora tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Aksoy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Pokora throws a body punch but Aksoy moves out of range.

Pokora shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Aksoy napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Pokora wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Aksoy, who protects the arm well.
Pokora is looking to take a break and control but Aksoy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
You can see the frustration on Aksoy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Aksoy tries to buck Pokora off but Pokora is having none of it.

Aksoy takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Pokora scores with a couple of short elbows.
Aksoy tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pokora wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Pokora decides to stand back up. Pokora steps back and let's Aksoy get back to his feet.
Pokora shoots in for a takedown but Aksoy shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Pokora is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Aksoy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pokora swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pokora lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Zimowit Pokora overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Pokora passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The ground and pound from Pokora seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Pokora wants to control but Aksoy is keeping him busy.

Pokora is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Aksoy is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Pokora stands up and beckons Aksoy to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Aksoy gets caught flat footed, as Pokora shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Erkin Aksoy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Zimowit Pokora is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Pokora enables Aksoy to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Pokora manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
Zimowit Pokora showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pokora, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
