PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Judo Jim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Judo Jim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Carlos Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, David Hoff and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jim tries to clinch up.
Diaz tries to clinch but Jim moves out of range.

Diaz fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jim to the ground. Diaz is now in Jim's guard.
Diaz working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz trying to control the position from guard on top but Jim is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Diaz postures up.
Diaz stays in close to Jim's body and controls the position.
Jim not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jim is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Diaz holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Diaz wants to control but Jim is keeping busy.
Diaz wants to improve his position but Jim is controlling well.

Jim tries to stand and escape but Diaz is controlling the position.
Jim is looking to take a break and control but Diaz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Diaz gets full guard.
Jim trying to control but Diaz is working from the bottom.
Jim tries to free his leg and advance position but Diaz is retaining full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Diaz closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Jim wants to get back to his feet.

Diaz is working for a submission of some sort.
Jim wants to improve his position but Diaz is controlling well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Diaz is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Diaz is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Diaz is pressing down on Jim's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jim is holding on for now.
Diaz is keen to just control but Jim is a slippery customer.
Jim tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Diaz is working for a kimura but Jim is defending it quite comfortably.
Diaz prevents Jim from improving his position.

Diaz is working for a submission of some sort.

Jim looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Well, if Diaz is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos Diaz dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Jim tries to clinch up.
A combination from Diaz does no damage.
Jim dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Jim fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Diaz avoids it really well and circles away.
Jim tries to clinch but Diaz is having none of it.
Jim fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Jim misses with a few strikes there.
A little jabbing left from Diaz on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jim is defended easily by Diaz.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Judo Jim. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jim keeps the fight on the outside.

Diaz scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Diaz wants to advance to full mount but Jim doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Jim keeping moving, preventing Diaz from controlling successfully.
Diaz throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jim works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Diaz wants to get up but he can't break Jim's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Diaz must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jim looking for a guillotine here but Diaz defends easily.
Diaz throwing strikes but missing.
Carlos Diaz has got the better of the ground game so far.
Jim can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Diaz controls the pace.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Diaz slaps away a takedown attempt from Jim, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Diaz.
Diaz trying to control the action but Jim is working from the bottom.
Jim tries to bench press Diaz off him but Diaz keeps the position.
Diaz sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Jim is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Diaz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Diaz is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Jim looking for a sweep but Diaz has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Diaz gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Diaz shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jim is trying to defend but Diaz finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Diaz thows a huge punch but Jim dodges it nicely.
Diaz trying to mount his opponent but Jim defends it.
Jim is looking for a sweep. Diaz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jim is not content to let Diaz control the position.

Diaz not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Diaz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jim's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos Diaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Jim gets tackled into the cage by Diaz. Diaz maintains the clinch.
Jim drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Diaz has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Jim is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Diaz tries to pull guard but Jim won't allow it.
Diaz tries for a takedown but Jim manages to get underhooks.
Judo Jim has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carlos Diaz.
Diaz is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Diaz prevents a takedown attempt there.
Diaz keeps control of Jim as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Diaz wants to take the fight to the mat but Jim manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Jim has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Diaz after a bit of a struggle.

Jim tries to break the clinch but Diaz is controlling the position.
Jim lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Diaz.
Diaz jumps guard but Jim stands there with Diaz around his waist. Diaz gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Diaz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Diaz can't break the clinch.
Jim goes for a takedown in the clinch but Diaz prevents it.
Jim tries to break the clinch but Diaz is controlling the position.
Jim jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Diaz walks away with a smile on his face. Jim gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Jim shoots for a double leg takedown but Diaz sprawls well. He's pushed Jim's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jim shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Diaz as he avoids it easily.

Diaz gets in close and instigates a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jim wants to break free but Diaz has control.
Diaz has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jim avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Jim's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Diaz shoots in and gets a takedown into Jim's guard.

Diaz is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Diaz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jim swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Diaz works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Jim is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Diaz pulls his head out easily.

Jim tries to roll over but Diaz keeps him under control.

Diaz was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.

Carlos Diaz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Diaz winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
