Ward comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Aint nobody got time for dat kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Raphael Tortiose!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Joe Ward!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Joseph Jones and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ward circles away from the clinch attempt

and Ward counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ward keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Tortiose's head.
Ward loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Ward preventing the sweep.
Tortiose working a defensive guard but Ward passes into half guard.
Ward is controlling the pace.
Tortiose wants to control but Ward passes into side.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ward working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tortiose is trying to improve his position.
Ward lands a few punches from side control.
You can see the frustration on Tortiose's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Ward working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Tortiose is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Tortiose is looking for a sweep.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ward cracks Tortiose with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Tortiose tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ward wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Check out the look on Ward's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tortiose is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Ward is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Ward is in the full mount, landing strikes.


Tortiose is rocked!
A big strike lands for Ward! That's really hurt Tortiose and he's turned his back - Ward keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Ward jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Joe Ward!
Our winner, John Joe Ward, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
