PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bubba Red (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Red comes to the cage accompanied by Black Stone Cherry Bulldozer. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bubba Red!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Burns!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Paulo Santos and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Red leaves Burns with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Burns shoots in looking for a takedown but Red manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Burns's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
It looked like Red was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Burns drives through and clinches with Red against the cage.
Burns tries for a takedown but Red manages to get underhooks.
Bubba Red has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Burns.
Burns struggles to land a body shot inside as Red controls his hands.

Red is looking to stand up but Burns isn't so interested in that idea.

Burns wants to get up but he can't break Red's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Red looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Burns advances to half guard.

Burns thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Burns tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Red changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Burns tries to avoid it but Red manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Burns to the ground. Burns escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Bubba Red is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Red looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Burns is fending him off so far but Red persists. Nope, Burns circles away and we're back to standing.

Burns pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Red back to the cage. Burns follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Burns tries to close the distance and clinch up but Red swats him away and circles back towards the center.

James Burns seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Burns. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
You can see the frustration on Red's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Burns darts in looking for a takedown but Red gets double underhooks and turns Burns into the cage.

Burns takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Red takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Burns slips a jab and a cross from Red.
Red looks for a takedown but Burns sprawls well.
James Burns seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Well Burns has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
