These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hanlon takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
KarelinPalmeiras tries for a takedown but Hanlon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

KarelinPalmeiras drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hanlon manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now KarelinPalmeiras has Hanlon in his guard.

Hanlon is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

KarelinPalmeiras has his foot on Hanlon's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hanlon works his way back into a safe position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hanlon is working KarelinPalmeiras over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Hanlon is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hanlon working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

KarelinPalmeiras escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hanlon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
KarelinPalmeiras will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hanlon sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed KarelinPalmeiras's guard.

Hanlon is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
